92 honda accord overheating constant undetected coolant loose

92 honda accord overheating constant undetected coolant loose
92 accord 225k miles. looseng coolant when running 2 qt/30 minute drive(no leaks to garage floor)
No coolant in oil! No visable steam in exhaust.
One of those rubber inition things appears to be a little moist ( where the spark plugs were when I blew a head in my 53 merc).
My main question is fair cost of repair!
Also trust worthy mechanic in north west houston/ southh montgomery county.
The german auto guy said $1000???? We are retired! The car was a gift from a cloce freind who only drove on long ttrips.
