Default redlines at 7000rpms???

i just helped a friend put in a b16 into his 91 si and it started, no probelms, no check eng. light, wired it up for vtec, the only thing is that i didnt hook up the 2nd o2 sensor but we didnt get a code for it, so we took it for a test drive vtec kicks in but it only redlines to 7000rpms does the stock ecu only go to 7000? any help would be great.

Does it cut off at 7k when you try to rev it up there? If so, my guess would be that its chipped, ask the person you bought it from.

if you're speedometer and tach aren't hooked up it wont' work.

VTEC won't engage also if you're motor isn't warmed up. There's also another parameter for VTEC not to work, but it's slipping my mind at the current moment.

What is the code written ON the ecu sticker, don't give us 'it says B16 on the ecu' . Importers do that to trick the people who don't know.

Ooh, didn't know the auto ecu redlines at 7k.

OP, I mean when you rev up to 7k does it just kinda hover up there or does the fuel cut off(Bounce off the limiter)?

i have the same problem with my crx with b16 swapped, my ecu reads:
37820-PR3-003
410-106089 AA
it's from an integra xsi, not sure if it's auto or not, bought a chipped ecu from ebay, problem solved

Most likely its the ecu then, I have no idea what would happen if the dizzy is 180 degrees off, I don't think it'll even run if it were 180 degrees off. Not to thread jack or anything but wouldn't it spark the pistons when it's at BDC if it were 180 degrees off?

there is no way to check like that. You have to crack open the ECU and see if it has an Auto chip.

Yes there is.
Here's what I know:
88-91 ECUs (PM6, PR4, PW0, PR3, PM7):
5spd = 000, 001, 002, A00, A01, A10, J00, J001, C01, C00
Auto = J51, J50, A50, A51, 901, A60, C50, C51, X30, A80

And the dizzy can't be installed 180 off. Honda designed them that way so you can't install it 180 off.
Auto b16's redline -7200
Manual b16's -8200

the stock pr3 that came with my swap redlined at 7200. everyone just told me it was because it was an old setup (manufactured in 1989)
