Default i want more torque!

I have a b16a but want more torque for my lil heavy ek hatch. Would i be worth it to get a b18a1 or b18b block(does it make a difference on what one i get), buy an eagle conversion kit off ebay and slap my b16 head on and use my b16 tranny?
any ideas? What else would i need to do it properly?

No, boost the car if you have $1,500 to $2,000 to spare. Swapping your block won't net you much extra HP for all the work/money you'll invest.

BTW, your hatch is not heavy.

i know its not heavy but its a dx model with custom power windows(a lil more weight). Im trippin on that one but i dont have the money to boost right now. I want to keep it N/A and i want to be able to keep up with GSR's and with a b16a its not happenin. An ls block is'nt that expensive and im pretty sure with that bottom end it should help right?

You would need to take the motor out, rebuild the motor, then drop it back in.

I am in a similar situation, I have a B16A2 in my EK Coupe and this pos is retardedly slow and is a pain to drive. My mechanic/friend advise me to boost a B16 rather than B20V/B18V because they are slow and I will regret it when I blew my Y8. So just save up over the next few months and then boost it in early spring like I am doing.

what else is out there for me to get so i can get more power in the bottom end. It just sucks to have a nice ride and having to get raped by a gsr. What would i need in order to keep up with one?

B18B would give you more torque, but you'll lose about 15-20hp and your redline will be lower you'd gain torque down low but your power up top would be the same. Basically you're paying $2000 for 15 ft/lbs
Having a B16 transmission makes you faster than the average integra LS setup, but still. Not worth the money.

I say put a GSR motor in there.. you got the vtec wiring already.. that with the B16 transmission and a couple mods and you will basically have a ghetto Integra Type-R.

If you're gonna spend that money, don't side-grade, upgrade

Oh and everyone is going to tell you to boost.
But i know what you're talking about. Low end sucks on any honda 1.6.
I have a D16Y8 and i'm swapping instead of boosting cuz it's low end irritates me, and i know that if i were to boost, i'd have a bigger intake, bigger exhaust, better flowing header, etc and those things kill low end..

so if you boost, the 1.6 'trouble spot' between 0-3500rpm is still going to suck.

i know an ls block is cheaper so wouldnt it be easier and be worth it to go ls/vtec. Im really not planning going the turbo route. Ide rather have a more longer lasting engine. Not saying that a turbo engine wont last long but they're harder and more expensive to maintain. Basically i want to keep up with gsr's. My b16 isnt cutting it. An ls/vtec should give me enough pony's to run right with them. Do you guys think its worth pulling the engine out, do the work, and have an "ls/vtec?"

Having a reliable ls/v takes money & right person to build. Smaller turbo actually helps torque instead of losing it, just no top end.

If you just want to pick up some quick torque, turbo is quick, but if you want some torque all motor I would recommend sleeving the block and put the ls crank in with a 84mm bore and Eagle ls rods to make your b16 a 2.0. We have done it many times and all motor we made 257hp 208ft of torque

Also a good header is a good Idea too, Wiseco offers the pistons for the 2.0 liter bore.

If you wanted to make torque, you shouldn't have bought a Honda

It's kind of funny, everyone complains that the EM1 is excessively heavy (to a Honda enthusiast) but I picked one up after driving around a 3400 lb car for so long that my Si feels like a freaking go-cart! Not to mention, 111 lbs feels like more than enough torque. It's the first car I've ever driven with "reserves" of power.

1996 ITR Block and Head
Spoon Head Port, Jun Valvetrain and Stage3 Cams
Edelbrock Victor X Manifold 1600 Injectors, Edelbrock Rail

Very nice numbers, but you must not know a lot of people with muscle cars.

Hondas are naturally aspirated from the factory, so it's not fair to say that your Type R that's fully built with a lot of aftermarket parts and a high output turbocharger is a Honda making more power than a V8. It's well beyond the integrity of the factory Honda, and so guess how much power a V8 would make if taken well beyond its original integrity.

Keeping with the Honda's factory integrity (i.e. naturally aspirated, original displacment, etc.) they make "no torque". I quote because I still disagree with this idea. Whether or not you're making a lot of torque is relative to the weight you have to pull, and 100-150lbs is a lot in a sub-3000lb car (most cases a sub-2500lb car).

Agreeed, but here in Japan Mugen and spoon make some pritty nice N/a numbers with OEM parts. I saw a B18c3 at spoon that made 243hp and 196tq all motor with Honda parts, just some Cam profile upgrades and induction system upgrades. These are all still OEM Honda parts Just modified for race use.
