Default Slightly free-flowing exhaust...

Well, almost got it done.
Here are some pics of it 90% done.
It's a Burns 3" ultralight muffler, aluminum dump.
Just have to do some fabbing on the car itself,
and cut the end of this off at an angle for ground clearance/aesthetics.
No I haven't tried it fired-up yet, and yes, I am scared...
If the shape looks impossible, you'll get it tomorrow.

Beside a "tall" beer can(473ml)

Beside a standard tape..

Aluminum v-band flange

Where I welded the 2.5"-3" transition onto old set-up

Finish it up tomorrow after school....:noes:

Well, it's loud. It sounds awesome!!!(insert Jeremy Clarkson evil laugh here)
Have to secure some header-wrap, thought I had some laying around...
Gay winter tires spin too much, and squirm under hard accel.
Datalog shows lean conditions between 5800 and 6700, and a little at 78-8100.
Only .4-.8 of an a/f ratio point though, so likely not worth a dyno.

Seriously though, ground clearance FTW!!!

How much are you boosting? Does it rattle since it's metal on metal in that bracket? How are you going to switch back to quieter exhaust if you need to?

No boost, n/a car.
It does rattle at times, that's what I need the wrap for.
No need for quiet exhaust, traffic laws are really slack here.
Perfectly legal.
Not my DD.

I wouldn't call that "slightly" free flowing lol. It really isn't necessary if you aren't boosting though. The work/quality looks great.

I thought the car was boosted for this but are you heavily modded?

Sorry, no day pics yet.
No, right now I'm just itr cams,rbc,ssr,k-pro.
Getting IPS k2 mkII's installed next week, and then
the manifold they sell, then a custom header by Ekasey/SSR.
That's why the crazy exhaust.
Here is a quick little vid beside the garage.
Revved it to 6000 once there, the rest was to 4-5000 on the blips etc.
Cheers...

think you could get a video of it inside your car while moving? I am a bit curious to how it sounds inside the car. Is it insanely loud?

At WOT, it's pretty snappy.
Cruising isn't bad. On a car with more interior, it would be liveable for trips.
I'll see what I can do in the next few days for a drive-by and in-car vids.

I put a turn down on right out of the rh for a while when I was getting the testpipe of my jrrrh fixed. The car sounded pretty nice at idle and alright at WOT but it was WAYYY TO LOUD and not to mention the major loss of low end torque sucked. Had it on for 5 minutes so I could get to the muffler shop. Never again.

The torque loss can be tuned out. It's a myth that large exhaust costs
low-end power. Properly tuned it should be no worse, and better in most places, especially around v-tec.
I went from stock to stright-pipe 2.5" with just dcrh,AEM V2, and k-pro.
Quick and dirty a/f clean-up got me 15whp at x-over point, 4whp peak, and no worse anywhere.

It's not a myth on previous Honda series motors.. it's actually true. You lose torque with bigger exhaust. Car needs the back pressure but on these motors things are a bit different. Have to think outside the box with the K-series motors because applications that were applied to older series motors really don't take effect towards the K-series due to the VTC changing the way the motor can be ran.

Having no experience with the earlier Honda stuff, I'll take your word for it.
My experience is not from my car though, it's from a mustang, with no fancy VTC. We have been running dual 3.5" on his car for 3 years.
It used to be just a 351, making 370whp, and his torque was on par or better than all the guys runnning 2.5" and 3".
He runs a dyno shop, so we had dozens of similar/identical mod cars to compare to.
Anyway, we will see what really goes on with my car, especially once I get the new header with the matching 3" collector.
Going to the dyno next saturday for cams/exhaust tune.
Hoping for 220whp. It's a mustang md-600, and stock type-s' get between
146-148whp.
Right now I'm 205whp with my mods.

yeah on V8's it's totally different. you guys put 3" exhaust on you gain torque and hp. Unfortunately previous seires hondas don't have that luxary, they lose torque and gain maybe 1-3 hp if that because of no back pressure especially if they take out the cat and put a test pipe in. But like i was saying on the K-series, you can't apply that same idea. The K-series has different potential and reacts different to the same mods the older series had done to them. That's why i say have to think outside the box.

Yes, the 50 degree variable cam angles change the rules when it comes to conventional wisdom.

I can assure you that this car will do best with the 3" when all said and done.
I'm not the first by far, clubrsx and k20a both have examples of 2.0L's liking the 3" once good cams are in place.
Alot of the boosted cars should have 3.5".

Hopefully it get's me some decent power up top where I need it.
The 23" slicks put me into 4th for a while, need the help.
Car goes in for the IPS install next tuesday, getting excited.
If I can get this pig under 2450lbs this winter, it should go pretty good.
This new exhaust just lost me 10lbs, it's a start.
