Brake upgrade...
I want to do a brake upgrade on my prelude. Its a 1995 prelude with an h23 motor. I want the vtec brakes and I searched. What I came up with was that the S, SI, VTEC, and 5th gen calipers are the same thing but then it started to get confusing because idiots didn't know what they were talking about and started saying that all the calipers were different. I know that I need the vtec ?caliper bracket? to mount the vtec rotor but are the 4th and 5th gen brackets the same? I can go to the junkyard and take the brackets off of a 5th gen but i wanted to know first if the 4th and 5th gens are the same. Also, what else do I need to convert to "vtec" brakes? Calipers, brackets, pads, rotors, brake lines, sensors, are the hub "ring" sizes the same on 4th and 5th gen rotors? I read that I need to shave about 2mm off of the pads if i use the si pads i think? Those people started to confuse me when everyone just wanted blab out whatever. Help?
Reason i am doing this is because I can get some cross-drilled and slotted rotors for free but i can choose si or vtec rotors. I know that some people will say i dont need C.D.S. rotors unless i go to the track but they are free!

You will need the 4thGen VTEC Bracket or the 5thGen Bracket.
The way the 4thGen Si & VTEC and 5thGen Calipers are the same is: The Piston inside the Caliper is the same Size. The Overall size of the Caliper is different.
The 4thGen Si has a different (smaller) Pad than the 4thGen VTEC and 5thGen. So if you use the 4thGen Caliper on a 4thGen VTEC or 5thGen Bracket, you will be using Smaller Pads.
The 4thGen Si has 10.2" Rotors, the 4thGen VTEC and 5thGen have 11.1" Rotors.
You shouldn't have to change brake lines or any sensors (There aren't any sensors on the calipers??), and I'm not sure on the hub rings, but I've never read anything mentioning them when doing the conversion.
Just curious, did you read the Brake Upgrade Threads in the FAQ?? If you didn't you certainly should.. They have some good info.

you can use 4th gen vtec rotors and find some NSX calipers. But you cant use 5th gen rotors of course b/c there 5 lug. But its not that hard to do a 4th gen vtec swap alot of people have done it.
So just to make sure I have everything straight:
1. I need 4th or 5th gen vtec calipers.
2. I need vtec (4th or 5th gen) brake pads
3. I need a 4th or 5th gen caliper bracket.
4. I need 4th gen vtec rotors because 5th gen rotors are 5 lug.
5. I don't need to change any brake lines (should be the same right?)
So the 5th gen brackets and calipers are the same as the 4th gen ones right? Same bolts, mounting holes, etc.
Also, I know that the calipers don't have sensors, I was talking about the ABS sensors. Thanks everyone!

lol, I thought that was what you meant, but no, the ABS shouldn't need to be changed..
The Brackets and Calipers are the same mounting/bolts and stuff yes, but the other stuff is different.
1. I need 4th or 5th gen vtec calipers. You can use 4th or 5th Gen Calipers.
2. I need vtec (4th or 5th gen) brake pads. No difference between 4thGen VTEC and 5thGen Pads, but the 4thGen Si has different pads. Pads will determined by which Brake Caliper you use.
3. I need a 4th or 5th gen caliper bracket. You need either the 4thGen VTEC Bracket or the 5thGen Bracket, both will work.
4. I need 4th gen vtec rotors because 5th gen rotors are 5 lug. Since you have a 4thGen, you have 4x114, unless you have a conversion done, so you have 4thGen VTEC Rotors.
5. I don't need to change any brake lines (should be the same right?). Correct, you do not have to change the Brake Lines.
