Noise when turning .. coming from upper Control arm or somewhere close to it
hey there , i occacisionally get one clunk when making a right turn on my driver side . I jacked the car up and started turning the tire and hear clunking noises on my upper control arm or maybe the steering knuckle that is attached to it . i cant pinpoint it and i am really concerned on the problem .. any ideas ?
Check the ball joint for play. If there is ANY play in the joint, no matter how minute, replace the upper control arm. You don't want a wheel falling off while you're driving on the highway, for obvious reasons.
If you can't pinpoint the noise exactly, you may want to have someone more experienced with automotive work to look at it for you. You may also want to check the lower ball joint for play.

put your hand over the balljoint while you shake with the other arm. you should be able to feel it if it has play. it should be obvious, especially if you hear the clunking.
