Prelude ECU/ECM Immobilizer
Hey All,
I am looking for a definitive answer on this. What years of OBD2 prelude ECU's have immobilizer? Did they start using 'em in 97, 98, 99 or 00?
I have heard alternately 97, 99 or 2000, so I am still curious. My Accord obd2 ECU is 97 and it does not have one. Please do not answer if you don't know for sure. Couldn't find anything certain from searching.
Reason being is I am looking to buy a used obd2 lude ecu, and the only one I can find is 99 so far.
Alternately, anyone selling a obd2 M/T prelude ECU without immobilizer? Hit me up!!!

All 5th gen Preludes use an immobilizer. 97-01. If you get another obd2 ecu, the dealer will have to recode it to match the immobilizer in your car.
All the 5g ecu's are interchangeable. I'm using a 99 model ecu in my 98.

I need it to run obd2 on a 97 accord lx with a F20B swap. The accord does not have an immobilizer (I think - no problem with using OBD2B JDM PCD ECU with rywire harness only). Does that mean I have to get a 96 obd2 prelude ECU to run obd2 and vtec?
i think there is a 96 obd2 usdm h22 ecu with no immobilizer that runs vtec, right?
i already have the f20b ecu, and it is technically obd2 (it is actually obd2b), but it is not obd2 for california smog purposes because it doesnt run any self diagnostic checks that are required for smog. i can always use my accord ecu, i will just have no vtec if it's gonna be smog legal...
also, I have to swap IM's and engine harnesses when I swap ECU's because of the 3-wire iacv on the f20b IM and the 2-wire IACV that the obd2 accord ecu requires.

Fwiw, you can remove the immobilizer circuit from a 5g ecu. Dunno how good you are with a soldering iron. I haven't done it myself. Might be a viable option for you though, since 96 ecu's are fairly rare.

well... I have no practice whatsoever - but maybe I can get someone else to sell me one without the immobilizer. it's not worth too much money/effort anyway, since it is only for getting the engine refereed. Once that is done I'm gonna get hondata or an ems and modify the hell out of it anyway...
