black thing on side of tranny?

Default black thing on side of tranny?
theres this black thing on the side of the tranny it's sort of the shape of a oil filter. It's missing on my 90 LS tranny so can i just get another LS one. NEED TO KNOW WHAT IT IS FIRST THANKS GUYS

if it is an auto, then it is a filter. if it is in the way of the differential, it is a part of a half shaft.

not half shaft or axle its at the top of tranny, solid blakc object, it has a sticker on it, and bolts on using 2 bolts.
