the cable probley snapped. you might be able to remove both ends(from tranny and cluster)and see if it spins freely. maybe hook it up to a drill, then spin one end, and make sure the other end spins also.

also the speedo and compenents are all mechanical, gears and such, theres absolutely no electrical components.

and I assume that when you swaped clusters you made sure the speedo cable was "clipped" or snapped in place ( on the back of the cluster)

To he who can't remove his speedo cable from the tranny...pull back the rubber boot and slide out the locking hairpin type thing. Then slide out your cable.

To he who can't get the speedo to work...make sure the speedo cable is ALL THE WAY IN at the tranny and the back of the cluster...

Just play with. As stated earlier, it's all mechanical. Nothing is electrical unless you've converted stuff...and if you did, you'd know what I'm talking about. The good side of it being mechanical makes it easy to troubleshoot. Either the cable isn't turning because one side isn't hooked up...the cluster is jacked up...or your tranny gear is jacked up. I doubt you've hit two bad clusters, and to mess a tranny up like that takes skill. So that leaves only one option...

I have a spare cable in my garage if you want to swap it out and see if that's the problem.

so after changing the lcuster i decided to see if my old cluster was actually broken by taking an allen key and putting it in the speedo hole and spinning it. It works.

i spent today at a junkyard getting parts and haven't checked the tranny connection.

i asked my father( former mechanic) and he said that it oculd be the gear in the tranny.

my question, is it possile to replace this gear, is it hard to find and will it be really difficult?

You want an easy way to check the cable without pulling out both ends? Remove the cable from the cluster so it stands up while you're driving, and just touch it and see if it is spinning.
