Default B20z - Worth rebuilding?

Hello all,

Just got a B20z2 engine. Previous owner said it blew a head gasket from overheating. So, I decided to take everything apart to inspect the cylinder walls, etc. Then I realized, I don't know what I'm looking for that would indicate a crack.

I would prefer to use this block over my B18b block for the extra displacement, and higher C/R. 10.2:1 C/R compared to my current 9.6:1 C/R with the B16a head.

Don't mind the dates listed on the photos, I didn't set the date/time on the digi since I replaced the batteries last.

1st, can I get away with simply replacing the rings with the stock pistons?
2nd, should I have the block checked over by a shop?
3rd, should I have a shop bore and hone the std bore to ensure a perfectly smooth surface?

Anything else I'm forgetting? Also, if I have to go with the 3rd option, what pistons (from experience) would you suggest?

I'm looking to take out the stock P30 Cams from the B16a head and swap in a set of 3rd gen GS-R Cams, what would you suggest for piston C/R to mate with the GS-R Cams?

Much Appreciated,

Wes.
