Default need help with exhaust rocker assembly..

i am goin by the haynes manual, but one thing has me kinda stuck. there are numbers on the inside of the arms. 4 of them matching, the other four not. if someone has done this before and can run me through it. that's what's up. i would just put them back together, but i'm pretty sure that the order matters.

rocker arm numbers are : 42, 42, 62, 62, 43, 44, 64, 65

thanks in advance

just did this myself and thought that the sequence matters, but it didnt. at lease for the f22b2 which is what i think ur talking about, bc mine had the same numbers. u just have to make sure u have the intake rocker arms (curved ones) correctly installed around the sparkplug tubes, and the exhaust ones are all the same. thats if its a non vtec but you can verify it on hondaautomotiveparts.com or any other online parts catalog just put in ur cars info and look up valvetrain and u can see if they are the same numbers.

bump. using the tightening sequence from the haynes manual, i started at one and and all the bolts were tightening. but when i got to #17..it wouldn't go down. and i don't wanna force it and mess upthe exhaust "shaft" i think it's called. are the two smallest rockers springs the same EXACT size?

edit: or. i see neke1 had a c clamp and a hammer (rubber i would think) is that used to position the exhaust shaft?

lemme know what it is

ha ha .. i hated doing this too. i feel ur pain !!! another tool not seen that was needed was a dremel and a polishing bit, this rocker arm assembly was a b!tch for me too the first couple times ...

I had the same prob and i tried everything to not have to F with the rocker arms. i could get every bolt threaded but one using the tightening sequence. im sure ur going through what i had to do and i know the limited info in the search sucked... ill try to explain the best i can.

As u shld be aware of the mainshaft on the intake side is hollow and has the grooves in it for the bolts to mount to the head, and holes for the oil to get to the arms. the exhaust side has the 2 different sized shafts in between the rocker arms. the 2 smaller ones go on the outside. the other 3 are the same size. they go in the middle. but they have to slot into each other. if these shafts arent slotted right they will cause the other bolts not to line up correctly. this space will be less than a mm and will make everything off.

if u look at the pic w. the clamp and the hammer with the just the assembly u can see up on the exhaust rocker arm on cylinder num1 has like 1 mm of space on the exhaust side. that was my prob area that needed correcting, the hammer wasnt needed. i barely used the clamp, it helpped a lil, but not reccomended, it was just becoming a pain and once u start getting the springs all integrated it only gets tougher.

also to note the reason the dremel was needed was bc durring disassembly one of the actual pieces that hold the assembly down to the head. while sliding off the mounts from the shaft it caused a bad spot by the grooved area where oil feeds to the rocker arm. if this happens to you too def make sure u smooth it back out otherwise it will cause chaos in the head eventually or immediatly depending on how bad of a nick it got. metal flakes in there clogging up one of the journals or causing friction on the rocker arm overtime etc. will basically F ur ish up quick style !!! in other words !!! im sure u get the picture. hope that helpped lemme know if u need anymore help GL

yeah, i hear ya. that's why i asked about the valves because i could've sworn i heard them going "pop when i was turning the cam manually. but, i think i've done some metal flaking. so i'm gonna just pull the RA assembly from a wrecked CD @ an LKQ junkyard.

thanks big homie
