Im working on a 90 accord that is only getting 16 mpg. What and where would I look for a problem. The car has a new cap, wires and plugs. TIA

 

Try putting in a new fuel filter and clean out the EGR valve.Is it throwing any codes?

 

Also try puttin fuel injector cleaner in da tank afta changin da fuel filter

 

Also try changing the Oxygen sensor... that's probably going to help a lot...

 

Do a general tune up. Replace fuel filter. Use quality fuel

Replace oil filter, use quality filter.

Make sure no leaks on intake. You could be running rich

 

there are a few threads on this from awhile back. check the archieves from alot more results. to many to list. but as you car gets older, expect is performance to go down a little. but 16mpg is pretty low for an accord old or not.
