Default Rebuilding JDM S1 Transmission

What do I need to order for parts? What synchros? Bearings? What US trans has compatible parts?

Well first I would say to get the transmission opened up and all parts laid out so you can properly inspect them. From there you will probably at minimum need a bearing and seal kit. Synchros will depend on use and mileage. Inspect all the gears, sleeves, and forks. The only thing you can use from US transmissions will be the sleeves, forks and other soft parts. The gears on the stack vary greatly from the JDM version. They are also not easy to find. I haven't had a set of S-1 gears in over a year Most of these parts are going on the Obsolete list so it may become a difficult task to get gears if your are bad. Good luck and let us know what you find!

The only problem with the trans other than it does not have an LSD. Which I plan on getting one for it. It has a third gear grind.

i just recently went though this with the syncros in my jdm YS1. I called gearspeed (Reputable honda tranny shop) and they said the JDM syncros are the same as USDM. also the tranny shop that installed them said they were the same parts. but the s1 could be different

not sure about the rest.

edit: Is there a similar US model S1 tranny to get new parts from?

The YS-1 is not compatible with the S-1 trans. The similar trans to the JDM S-1 as far as synchros go will be a USDM S-1. A YS-1 will not work on 3-4 and the sleeves, gears, and forks are completely different. So if you need S-1 synchros...order them for an S-1...end of story You can't go to the dealer and just order synchros.

sorry to confuse anyone, I was trying to say that some honda tranny parts are interchangable between usdm and jdm, I only mentioned the Ys1 as an example.
