Default yamaha R1 steering damper

Hi I recently purchased a 2007 Yamaha R1. This bike is the replacement for my 2004 cbr 1000rr that was stolen. Anyway my question is for anyone who has this bike, or knows anything about it, do you know if the steering damper is adjustable or not? The manual doesn't tell me anything. I find that the bike gets a little skittish when winding out the throttle and the front wheel gets a little light, so i would like to stiffen the steering damper.

any comments or suggestions on a replacement would be appreciated as well.

Ohlins, or GPR? Does anyone have any experience with either of these?

thanks Brendon

Post a pic!

I can't answer your first question; no experience with the bike itself.

However, I have an Ohlins damper on my 600rr and it works great. I did my research and from what I've read Ohlins is the best.

GPR is good too.

no your stock damper is not adjustable, however if you are getting bad shakes and want to tighten it up i would deff think about replacing it!

Where are you getting headshakes? Accelerating hard out of turns is going to cause headshake on any literbike.

Don't let a steering damper fool you into thinking the bike is set up correctly.

Here's a test on various dampers - Ohlins, Scotts, GPR, Arrow, etc.

well so far i have only put 300 miles on it, but it seemed to mostly do it in a straight line under hard acceleration. my cbr never shook like this under similar conditions. I understand it is a different bike, but i believe a slightly better damper would help. the bike tracks perfect other than this little flaw when riding.
thanks for the comments
