While driving I turned on the a/c. After a while I realized that the car was not being cooled. Soon after I started smelling something burning, so I looked up and the left side of the front of my car was smoking. I pulled over and noticed that it was the a/c compressor. I turned it off and let it cool, and continued to drive with no problems.

What could have caused this? Is it blown now?

 

A/C compressor clutch.. And yes the compressor is shot

Grab a new compressor from a wreckers, i got one for 80 bucks a year ago, and it works fine. Easy to disassemble old one and put in new one.
