Hey guys well I just won a bid on a B16A engine. Just the engine no transmission and minus intake manifold.

I was wondering what are my options in building it up. What do I need to get for it. I know I need the transmission, axles, ECU, intake manifold.
I'm just wondering what I should look out for.
I'll let you guys know more of the condition of the engine once I get it home tomorrow since I haven't seen it yet.
I also wondering how can you tell what generation it is?

i don't want to me an ***, but **** if you don't know you options are for a B16 by now, please don't touch it.

edit* i'd assume a first gen (89-91).

I'm just don't know much about em. Just that I've wanted one. Now I want to learn about it and do things right the first time!

Well...since youre gonna need an Intake Manifold, might as well "do it right the first time" and get a CTR or ITR..maybe you can try STR, or Skunk2 for aftermarket options. I'm sure you can pick out axles and ECU's yourself...What gen. is it? you're probably gonna need pigtails to convert OBD's..(I'm just assuming you have a 96+ civic or so..I dunno..Just giving my opinions here..Tranny....make sure you get an LSD tranny...JDM engines should have some stock ones so you'll save some $$$ right there... I dunno..Just P&P it and swap it in..good luck..

damn, i thought i got a deal on my b16a head for my ls-vtec(in the making) but you got the ultimate deal. i paid 80 bucks for my head..... but damn 33 bucsk for long block? remember low compression for turbo, high for all MTR

 

Yes it works as a silent auction.

You go in during the day and look around and make an offer on what you are interested. Then they close the place around 2:00. Then they post the results or you can call them later on that day to find what you got.

I was lucky to get it at $33.00. It was one of those being at the right place at the right time and no one else wanting it, and my dad not knowing for sure what it was either. I would of put probably put $150.00 on it at least if I would of been there. I just got lucky that no one else had seen it and knew what it was. They also get all kinds of stuff there, not just engines.

I'm just now awaiting for it arrival at my house. I'll update you guys once I get it home.

I'll be probably putting it into a EG 4dr LX or EX. I'll be putting it in with a 5spd also. I'll put into a CX, VX hatch if I don't find a 4dr. I'm also only wanting to put it into a white car. So I'll have some searching to do. I'll probably build the engine up in the mean time.

Update!

Well I got sitting out in my garage.

I believe it is a first generation B16A out of an Integra over in Japan.
It is just the engine. The manifold, distributor, injectors and transmission is not there. All wires and hoses are all cut to hell also. Did take the valve cover off and my dad said, "looks damn good nothing wrong with that engine." Thats from a quick look though. I'll have to get it onto a stand and take the oil pan off and see how the bottom end looks like.

OH I hadn't seen the engine before I got it but my Dad did. You just look around a place a bid that you want to.

 

there is a stamp on the front of the head which will tell you the year. it will be a 2 digit # inside a circle. like 91 or whatever you get the idea

 

Yup I found a series of like 3 circles. I'm guessing 89 means 1989. I'll post the whole sequences in a while.

Thanks for the info. Do they have stamps like that on a D series engine?

 

I know a guy that was trying to buy a b18c5 swap from some guy local, and the police cought the seller stealing cars and ****. Turns out the motor was hot, hard to believe huh. Well apparently the motor is probably going to end up in a police evidence locker. That sucks.

Oh wait, my mom's boss is a judge. Maybe....
