OEM Honda old parts ?
what does Honda do with all their old parts they dont sell ?
I hear there's a factory somehwere in the US that stores all these parts older than 15 years...
Im trying to order/find a 1990 civic floor carpet !
Supposedly, any dealer will be able to use their EPC Intra-Network system to source any parts that are available at any Honda dealership.

you're never gonna find it. honestly. i've looked for certain oem parts for YEARS and haven't found them.... i'd try a aftermarket place... I had real good luck with stockinteriors.com
I'm the parts/production manager for a body shop, and my general manager said something about a website that when a part is discontinued, they buy all parts left in stock across the country. I'll look into this further, i know he told me the website. I'll try to find out today. if you can't get oem there are a lot of after market companies that make all colors of carpet.

The carpet should still be available somewhere. The carpet is an OEM piece, not an optional accessory, such as floor mats, armrest, window visors, center console etc etc
Deetz managed to buy a brand new Crx carpet recently.

It's somewhere out in the midwest. They store parts for most manufacterers which includes over stocked items, slow moving items and older parts. I guess it's like the boneyard of parts.
haaa. goodluck, best places are ebay, or ask around here.... i so happened to ask around on here and got the super rare *** jdm headlight washers and parking pole.... honda-tech is a
for me, never know what ur going to find

Today I called Georgetown Honda here in Toronto area, and the parts guy told me that hes gonna get Honda canada to do a North American search for this carpet.
He also told me that Honda after 15 years, scraps all the old unsold parts.
By doing this, the government reinburses the duty taxes back to Honda, if the parts were made in Japan or overseas.
He said that they do this because ot costs too much money to store all the old parts.
Right now, Honda has 1.5 million square feet of warehouse space to store old parts.
To carry all the old parts from the 70's, 80's 90's, they would need 5 million square feet of space, which would cost too much for Honda.
I guess Im SOL.

yes and no. I just want to keep it looking as OEM as possible. Personal preference.
they arent really in the collector car class.

Some are more in demand then others. People get into car accidents every day so their is always a high demand for exterior parts. Not a lot of people need new carpet everyday.

I'm not sure of the warehouse but Honda does have "Honda vintage" designations for some parts now. They are handled by a company outside of Honda but are still purchased through Honda dealers. I just recently bought a driver's side seat cover for my '90 SI and it came this way. I would imagine that your carpet would be available this way as well.
If you want a good read; here is my diatribe on old honda parts and their marketing department.

It can also be found by doing a yahoo web search on "honda marketing idiots".

Have you checked Majestic Honda? I have been using them for a while with excellent results--on cars going back nearly 20 years. Yes, they charge a handling fee, but in the end it's still a good deal.
Anyway, looks like they show carpet for a '90 Civic: http://www.hondaautomotivepart...R+MAT
I have found that if the part is listed, they have it or can still get it from Honda.

Really? Okay, that's a bummer.
We see this a lot with other manufacturers. They can't supply OEM parts forever, but the aftermarket seems to pick it up. Want a grille for a '69 Camaro? The local Chevy dealer probably won't have one, but I bet Year One sells a GM-approved replacement. As demand increases, I bet people will start turning out replacement parts for older Hondas.
On a slightly related note, check out http://www.kipmotor.com (Of course their Web page is acting up tonight.) They're good friends of ours. They cater to fans of oddball, older British cars like Sunbeam Imps and Humber Super Snipes. In most cases, the original manufacturer is long gone. So they make replacements parts right there in their Texas shop: tail light lenses, rubber gaskets, wiring harnesses, distributor caps and rotors, chrome trim, interior kits and more. Maybe one day they'll start doing Honda parts....
