Default EM1 2000

hi im not sure if this is in the right forum but i am planning on purchasing an em1. the only problems i can see with it is that theres a big and not small but a dent on the passenger side. it also shoots out black smoke whenever he gets on the gas or hits vtec. could that be cause its not tuned? its also has bolt ons such as exhaust intake and headers. also could it be that hes using the wrong fuel? please help me. sorry if i made a big paragraph for you guys to read but help would really be appreciated.

No. Black smoke means he is burning oil. Blue smoke means he is running rich.

Umm... im pretty sure blue smoke is oil burning, and black is soot/richness, and white is coolant/water. Ive profusely burned (or have seen) all 3 at one point or another.

Factually, black smoke is too much fuel as is the black soot in the tailpipe. My car is running rich because of a faulty O2 sensor but still doesn't smoke so I don't know what's going on with his car. Also when you're running that rich you'll definately smell the raw fuel. How much is he asking? I got a stock EM1 in great condition for $8100. What you're describing with the mods and everything, I wouldn't pay more than $5500 for.

Oh, and yes, oil is blue smoke and it kind of smells something like burning oil.

Running lean? Um, no. It's amazing how many people on here don't know one of the simplest forms of diagnostics. sleepyH22 is absolutely right.

1700 posts and your giving false information on such an easy topic?

at OP, black smoke usually means hes runnig rich and has unburnt fuel in the exhaust.

But if it's not the secondary O2 sensor? Im not bashing your statement or ideas. But what if its something more in depth? The OP would be fucked. To the OP, you should have some sort of agreement with the seller. Something along the lines of; "if i have the secondary O2 sensor replaced and it doesnt solve the problem, i will have my money returned in full." You know.. just in case, so you wont get stuck with the seller's problem car. GL

depends on the price.

i heard i/h/e can throw off fuel ratio
and at least its safer to run rich than lean.

check if its running any CELs.
if its not, and the price is good, i say scoop it up

I'm getting the car for 4500. I'm only 17 paying for it my self. I'm making payments towards my mom. I just don't want to have to spend so much money fixing it. He's 21 and drives clamly so it hasn't been beaten on. What do u guys think? its been broken into twice and in two acidents but no frama damage.

Thats not too bad for an SI.
Yes, SI's are hot jailbait *** among theives (Aka, ****-shiners)
Since its been in two fender benders, you may be able to argue a slightly lower price.
I would say your first mod should be a good alarm system.

wow. I read this earlier today. then tonight I just noticed minor white smoke coming out of my exhaust. But I poured a bottle of STP fuel treatment this morning on a very low tank of gas. so i guess I have a blown headgasket cause I am low on coolant too? also, offtopic, but when my fuel tank is low it takes longer to start than a full tank of gas. what does that mean? any insight?

im gonna wait probably until december, i need to come up with the funds first. as in lowering the price? i guess the 4500 is a set price. im guessing the smoke is coming out because of what killaj12 said about the i/h/e throwing off the fuel ratio. could that be the reason?
