Unidentified noise from rear left tire well.....HELP !!
2001 Base-Auto
Ok....about a month ago I started hearing a terrible creeking popping sound from my rear left tire well but only when i hit the brakes. Usually it took a few miles of driving and braking before the noise became pronounced. The noise seemed so perfectly in rhythm with my braking that I assumed it was the pads or rotors.
My buddy who has a garage put it up for me and took of the tire and checked the pads and rotors , the pads looked practically brand new and the rotors were in decent shape. There wasnt any debris or obvious gouges in the rotor. So we cleaned them both and put them back on. While he had the tire off he noticed that one of the bushings on the rear suspension looked worn crooked. You can see that the spacing compared to the other side is different and the "arm" looks slightly crooked. He said the bushing may be worn and causing that creeking popping noise when i brake because its putting pressure on that joint. So he sprayed some lubricant on the joint/bushing and away I went. I drove around for a half hour and the noise was completely gone. Needless to say a week later its back , not as pronounced but its getting there. I dont even know if im describing the part in the rear suspension that we looked at properly but , It looked like the main arm coming out from the brake assembly going inward and connecting to....well this newbie dosnt know!!! HELP !!!! WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK IS UP !!!!
I am going to try and lube up that bushing again and see if the noise goes away.

Thank you for that eloquent response....you must be pretty popular on this board.
I am simply looking for responses where people have encountered the same problem or can help me confirm what I am already thinking is wrong.
