Default Honda OFFICIALLY #1 in reliability

Just watchin the news this morning and CONSUMER REPORTS officially announced the top five automakers in terms of reliability.........

1. HONDA
2. Acura
3. Scion
4. Subaru
5. Toyota

They say the drop from Toyota was largely due to a few models scoring below average.

The main problem with Toyota is the problems that they've had with the Camry (the #1 selling car in America)...that's where their biggest hit came from.

Honda/Acura

Actually....technically ur #3...even though they're the same company. Not sure why Consumer Reports separated them along with Acura, but they did.

So you already got ur xB??

Scion and Toyota/Lexus
Acura/Honda.... why do they even rank them as if they are different.

Yeah if Lexus isn't in there with Toyota, kinda makes me wonder where they along with other high-end carmakers like Mercedes and BMW rank.

I understand they're the same manufacturer, but they are ranked by brand.

if you're buying a lexus, do you really care how reliable a corrolla is?

Haha, Scion > Toyota? And wow, I never thought subarus were that reliable from all the stories I hear about them breaking down. What Toyota needs to do is make a reliable sports car!

Lexus is Toyota, Infiniti is Nissan (I'm assuming you knew that, but in case you didn't or anybody else didn't).

It's based on consumer reports, do you think more people will own a Camry or an IS350? Scion tC or a G35?

I'm aware of the brands but when JD Power publishes, they are broken out by brand name not manufacturer. Lexus may belong to the same shareholders as Toyota but they are two different products.

Go honda!
for the luxury brands not being ranked...all i know is that m-b is known for its horrible technical reliability rating. just bought an 05 lexus es330, seems to be working perfectly for only 21k price

True, but this is based on consumer reports.

Here's the complete list..............you might be surprised at some of the results!

The one that gets me is Hyundai > Nissan, BMW, AND Mercedes.

RICO_ thanks for the complete list - that makes a whole lot more sense now. Although I'm surprised to see such a big difference between the Lexus' ratings on JD Power and Consumer Reports. The Hyundai one doesn't really surprise me though -- my wife has one of their SUV's and it's been a completely trouble free vehicle.

Hyundais ARE getting better, I wouldn't buy one, but they're walking the same path as Honda.

Now, I don't know about them being better than Mercedes and BMW...but I do know that BMW's have countless problems.

And the Land Rovers and Hummers crack me up

My question is, how do they go about this survey (I guess that's what you'd call it)? Do they pick out 100 random owners of each brand of car and ask them or what?

I drove a Hyundai for 90K miles without any problems before trading it in.

Not sure exactly how these reports work.....but I'm pretty sure they survey more than 100 people. It just seems a little low to only do 100 of each brand out of the whole nation.

Maybe they go through service department records at the dealerships around the nation and base it off of that. Not sure though.
