Default To be blown or not to be? My transmission is the question.

So i bought this transmission off of my homeboys "friend." I was told it was an 98' ex transmission. Thanks to gearspeedEF7 i found out it was an 98'cx trans. He was selling it for 100$ so i thought it was a really good deal. I asked him if it grinded or if there was any problems with the transmission at all and he said "no". No grinds, nothing is wrong with it. This transmission was for my "auto-to-manual' project i was gona do with guidance of the DIY here on H-T. Well i was reading into transmissions, trying to do my homework and figuring out exactly how they work, when one day i felt brave enough to open up the tranny. I have a diagram showing where and what everything was so i felt confident. So to my dismay, there was pieces of "gear teeth falling out of the housing as i was separating that pin (not a "pin" but the proper term escapes my mind at the moment) that holds both sides of the transmission housing toghether. I thought wtf this shouldnt be. So ill just let my video and pictures explain themselves, and you guys tell me if i was sold a blown transmission.

I also got some questions for you guys.. What would cause this to happen? Just plain stupid driving? Or Does this happen over time? Maybe a **** head for a driver? This guy must have known the tranny was busted when he pulled it off th motor right?

I know these are alot of questions. Thanks in advance guys

:D lol do you even need to be told that after seeing that in real life? wheres common sense nowadays, that if all of the teeth are missing from a sprocket its not ok.

Nice friends you got there.. oh wait they scammed you, they're probably laughing their asses off now, cause thanks to you they can smoke their next portion of crack. I bet he knew what was up with his friends transmission.. yeah some friends.

i just needed some other input. I know its common sense, but i feel better that you guys are backing me up since me being new to transmission internals. Like i was trying to state, There is no way this tranny was "drive-able" right? in other words.. He new exacly what was going on. He intentionally scammed me. Thats fo fucked up man, he knew i was gona need this for my project, damn.

Default gotta crack the case before you buy

I learned my lesson from buying a used gearbox!

I spun the mainshaft, everything sounded okay -- the differential spun. But inside many things were messed up.

If you spun the mainshaft, you would have realized the diff wasn't hooked up anymore.

You should, I got raped on a bunch of parts for my previous Honda projects including a $1000 for a B18 so learn your lesson. Only buy new or make sure you can test it before you buy. Some Honda guys are cool, others are better off dead.
