Default cheapo intake

Would a cheap intake, such as the brand "vibrant" short ram provide any real horsepower? I'm running the stock airtubing to the stock box with an enlarged hole. Do you think that there will be any benefit to going to the short ram? i really can't afford an AEM cold air, which is the route I'd go if I could. My D16y8 must be starved for air with the CRX tubing!!!

short ram intake are all the same just diff name brands it will help at little with a more open element fliter but not any huge diff. the alumiumn tubing will also cause more noise= louder sound while accelerating

goto a hardware store and spend 13$ on pvc **** make your own cai. take aprox 45 min. paint it w/ a high temp paint to make it resistant to heat. gains more hp than short ram

dont use pvc, ive seen it melt b/f, even with high temp paint. Not only that, but it will let off toxic fumes. PVC + summer heat+hot engine = bad news

dont argue.!
PVC when heated! period.!!! not burned, with a lighter, in a garage, in a car. etc

underhood temps are enough to heat the PVC and release dioxins into your motor.!!!

actually yesterday i got bored and saw one of those window heat shield that u put in the front window in the garbage at work...so we cut it in half and wrapped it around our intakes!! im not worried bout if catching fire cuz 1. its sopposed to stand up to direct sunlight w/o catching fire 2. my battery is in the back. 3. the fan blow on it cooling even more...

as for getting an intake they are not rocket science..just get one off ebay for $30...

yeah I could do that, but the stock intake tube is still tiny, kinked and restrictive as hell.

When you took out the bottom piece, how did you secure the air filter?? Wouldn't it just flop around??

I think I'd be better off with a cheap intake.

CAI's decrease total HP up high do to there length. Especially the AEM CAI it is too small for power up high. Short ram intakes dont make to much power down low cause they suck a lot of hot air.

The ultimate solution is to get a short ram intake nd put heat shielding all around it cause underhood tem,ps arnt a prob when moving.

CAI are not as good one low tourque motors such as b16 cause it doesnt make any power down low so why have it?

AEM intake would e best on a D series motor ...

Heheh I just took off the bottom airbox and hacked a giant hole, and it sucks hella air now! I think the restriction is the tubing now. I may just try to make that cold air intake.

i kinda made my own cold air...i took 3 90's, did some cutting and welding, and then connected to this small radiator looking thing, and then from there to something that looks a little like a hair dryer, and it was an unbelieveable difference high in the rpm range, but i think it gave my motor a cold, because it sneezes when i shift....

sorry...had to share my homemade cai...

there is a reason behind the 2.5", it carries a faster air flow, with the bigger pipe, you crate turbulance, and that can make you lose hp...i'd stay with the 2.5...i'm sure aem has a very good r&d and they tried more than one way...just my .02
