In process of buying CRX, some issues id like looked at
Im currently in talks with a seller of an 88 CRX DX.
2 things particularly stick out. While driving there is a rattle, more like a knock, but not the infamous engine knock. We jacked up the car and pushing and pull the passenger wheel side to side knocks. Its nothing immediatly in the wheel or steering assembly, but is more "inside" the engine bay. I was told that the previous owner suggested the Rack & Pinion is going out. Was he correct? Is this an expensive fix?
Also, there is damage to the driver side front "crossmember". The piece that runs from both fenders between the bumper and the wheels. The damage is right where there is a metal rod going from this "crossmember" to the part that steers the wheel (I believe). The two bolts connecting the member to the body are bent, and that part of the body is damaged and bent as well. On top of this the driver side front wheel has a bit more wear than the passenger wheel on the inside, making me think the allignment might be off due to this.
Input? Im hoping these issues wont be immediatly destructive, because I do need time to save up to fix them if they indeed need fixing. Let me know what you guys think. The engine starts and runs fine, Transmission appears to shift fine (its been a while since ive driven manual but i could shift no problem with no jumping between gears).
Im taking it to get looked at tomorrow and to get an estimate on the damage, I will also post pics tomorrow. My goal is to get both these problems fixed for under $1000 total, but that is completely dependant on the damage to the suspension and frame.
Once again, let me know what you guys think. Its bone stock and I want to do much with this car over time, but first thing is first, gotta fix immediate problems before I can tune it up.

So I got the car looked at by a mechanic, said the left front needs to be pulled straight. Priced at $300. Hopefully that fixes the main problem. I still need a new crossmember however. Question is, is it supposed to be straight across from left to right or does it "curve" in the middle, and what model and year civic / crx can i rip one out of?
