gas light?
ok so i have noticed this about my AP1, when gas is getting low the light comes on...ofcourse but it comes on when i have 2 bars left and sometimes the bars jump up to 3 and then back down to 1...and then when i have no bars left and go to fill up i have never been able to put the full 13 gallons in...its always at like 10/11, never 12/13 now i know that this might be a stupid question but i would just like to know if this is just a safty thing...or something els...eh any ways its not really a big deal i just want to know. thanks!
It's just really sensitive. If you're on a hill it'll also act weird. I usually just go fill up when I see 3 bars and it's not going up to 4 regularly. And it usually comes out to 10gallons.
Every fuel gauge is different simply because no resistor is exactly the same resistance. Also, if your charging system voltage isn't spot on, the guage will be affected. The guage is to give you an idea on how much is left in the tank, not to be exact.
But as a rule of thumb, The light should come on with approx 2 gals left in the tank. and when the guage reads empty, you generally have half a gallon left in the tank.
But another thing to be said is that the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank. Having less then approx. 1/3 of a tank of gas in the fuel tank can cause the fuel pump to heat up and prematurely wear. I rarely drive any of my cars with less then half a tank of gas in them. Its just a good polocy.

Well every car would be different depending on your personal driving style. The tank is about 13 gallons.
So next time you fill up, set your trip to 0. And then on your next fill-up. See how many gallons you put in and do some math with the miles you clocked. That'll give you a rough idea of how many miles you clocked and how many gallons/miles you have left.

AP2 tank according to the manual is 13.2 gallons. I have let mine go all the way to no illuminated bars and filled it up. The last time that happened it took 11.4 gallons, well short of it's capacity. I'm sure Honda does this to encourage people to fill up early. If it went empty as soon as the indicator lights went out lots of people would be running out of fuel.

yah i figured it was just way sensitive, but its good to know that its just not my car
but thanks alot for all the post's it helps, but every time i do put gas in it and fill it i do figure out what im getting to the gallon and its usually 24 i actually think that is my highest
but i have heard of some people doing 27-30 MPG and i pretty much want that ha ha, but owell thanks for all the re-post's guys it helps alot

how abt wit a hardtop? would that affect the milage?

I would imagine that with a hardtop (assuming it has the same shape as the soft top) one would achieve better mpg. I see the hardtop being more slippery aerodynamically. I haven't heard of any coefficient of drag numbers top up vs. top down vs. hardtop. I'd like to see that comparo though.
