Like 99.9% of the HT members I have too much time and money invested into my car to let it burn in front of me. There's a video of a Subaru (blue I believe) where the guy stands on the side of the road watching his ride burn to the ground.
This is not the video I am referring to, but you get the idea.....
Burning Subaru
I'd like to see what extinguishers you guys have and where you have them mounted. I know mine is going on the roll bar..... just not sure which one I am going with and exactly where to mount it.
Keep the pillar gay $hit to yourself or in the rice thread

What does that have to do with anything. If you have 10K invested in a 95 hatch, the insurance will only give you what it was worth. Not a very good way to think.

i carry a small halon fire extinguisher next to my seat in my EK. it's a good fire extinguisher because it uses halon gas, which pretty much sucks all the oxygen out of the air, to put out the fire. because it is a gas, it doesn't spray all that gunk and foam all over the engine bay, so there is no mess.
unfortunately, i think halon fire extinguishers are discontinued, as it is no good for the ozone layer or something like that...

When the engine is on fire, the last thing i would worry about is making a mess with gunk and foam when trying to put out the fire.

same here... but if i have the choice of picking either or, which one would you carry in your car?? i'd go with the halon gas...

In for this... will be picking one up shortly
I'd like to see people's discrete mounting positions. I suppose you need to be able to reach it from the driver's seat... but the whole "mounted extinguisher on the cross bar of your roll bar where the world can see it" does not work for me.

FusterCluck, you definitely need to invest in one like you said, all the hardwork and money put into that car, I would definitely hate to see it burn up! I have viewed most of the build thread and I am impressed!
My question though, in all seriousness is if your motor is on fire, and burning up, how are you supposed to open the hood after you pop the latch? I guess you should keep a set of nice leather gloves in the car at all time?

also, the fire probably wouldn't be too large until after you open the hood, when the fire is exposed to fresh oxygen..

My little brother's CRX caught fire one time. Pulled over, popped the hood, and fanned out the fire with a shop rag we kept in the bar. Wasn't a serious fire by any means, but you should be always paying enough attention to notice if your car is on fire before its engulfed in flames, yee.

Yeah that is true...I have never experienced it in any form, my car/somebody I knew's car, so I was just curious.

Yeah I hadn't thought about the scenario from the elements essential to a fire, so I suppose the fire is basically choking until the hood pops and all that fresh air rushes in!!!

My extinguisher is mounted on the bottom of the rollbar's main hoop on the drivers side, upright behind the drivers seat. Sorry i don't have any pics of it.
Good post
In my opinion, a fire extinguisher is a must for any car with modified wiring/fuel etc...just a good thing to have in case **** goes bad...

My boss' T-bird caught fire today. He had to sit and watch it burn completely to the ground while the fire fighters took their time putting on their suits and masks 20 feet away.
I will be getting an extinguisher very soon!

How did you secure it in that location? I'd rather have it in arms reach from where I sit. I may be able to mount mine just in front of my seat. Would definitely be close by and out of site too!!
It's going to be that location or the roll bar crossbar as Chase posted.

Do you have any pics to post? I know those guys are about safety first (getting geared up before going to risk their lives), but I bet those few seconds felt like eternity to your boss
Glad to see this thread getting positive feedback
