Default wierd noise (like a ricer sound) only at 3k rpm to 3300rpm

gsr 96
and it sounds like the car has a rice can on it from 3k to 3300 rpm. i think that is the best i can explain the noise.

the noise is not present during any other time. it is also there if just rev it to 3000-3300rpm

any ideas? i messed with the exhaust and it seems loose like it could have some rattles in it. but wouldnt it do it throughout more of the rpms?

Damn, I have a 96 GSR and it does the exact same thing. Its pretty damn annoying. I am thinking its something with the heat shield, just been too lazy to check it out. Let me know if you find out what the problem is man, I'll do the same on my part.

check all of your exhaust hangers... periodically one of my hangers will be in just the right position so it only vibrates when I push the clutch in. All you have to do is bend the hanger away from the pipe (mines the one closest to my right rear wheel, yours may very well be different). This sounds like what was going on with mine, hope this fixes it... I hate irritating sounds I can't place...

Most likely the "ricer" noise you are hearing is the aluminum of some heat shield and/or an exhaust hangar rattling on the exhaust. As azero said, bend the hangar away from the exhaust if you identify which hangar is the culprit.

I think it may be the exhaust manifold. i read on some where that the gsr has a common problem with the exhaust manifold coming loose.

I am going to take a look under there and take off the heat shield mess with the exhaust and reweld anything that is lose.

let me know what you guys think..
