Default Piston cracked...what could have caused this? *NEW PICS*

My motor had been running very well for three months at 15psi making 360whp daily. This was done on pump gas (91)...I know I was pushing it on shitty cali 91 octane for daily driving. The day before I took it out to the track I went back to the dyno to do some pulls with open downpipe. It made 392 on the same 15psi. I took it to the track and right after the second pass I heard lots of noise and knocking and I thought I spun a bearing so I shut it off and pushed it back to the pits. Towed it home and took it apart and this is what happened to #2...crappy camera!

Any ideas on what might have happened? Ran lean? Injector went out? or the tune? The other pistons have very little wear on the sides and skirts but nothing like this one.

open downpipe makes you leaner. leaner makes you melt/crack pistons. dont run open downpipe whe you're tuned with a full exhaust.

Looks like your motor was running too hot and the piston expanded too much and scratched the walls.

This issue is called "black death"....

Were you low on coolant/water at all?
Do you see any detonation on the plugs?

I did notice my temp needle at 3/4 of the way hot at the end of the run but coolant was fine.

These were flat top 9.8:1 Wiseco pistons. Is this too high for me?

piston-wall clearance was probably on the tight side and you over heated it.. you skuffed it.

run those things a little looser next time.

Thats what I though but I had piston to wall clearance at .0025 which is what wiseco reccomends because of the coating. Unless my machine shop left it tighter than that.

.0025 is wayyyyyyyy too tight on a FI motor.

They need to be like .0045

I was going to set it at .0035 but Wiseco suggested .0025 because of the .001 layer of coating.

I just got a set of CPs...should I go with their reccomended clearance of .0035 i think or bigger?

what would make it run that hot? cooling problem? or running lean?

When i put it back on the dyno the AF was in the low 11's.

Digital Picture taking 101: 1.)For very close up shots, use the macro setting on your camera 2.) cameras have a minimum focus distance. You are obviously too close, back up and zoom in.

I noticed the temp after I crossed the traps and I shut it down soon after that. I am running a half size radiator, dual core from a del sol.
