Default pcv set up help please.

lo' all.

just a quick question, but on the stock pcv valve that runs from the black can to the intake manifold, when should the valve be open? just at idle and low rpms?

can the valve be removed and just vented into the aptmosphere? or can it be re-routed back into the intake pipe BEFORE the throttle body? or a better idea to route it into the exhaust so it is sucked out and bypasses the engine completly?

i broke my pcv valve the other day trying to remove it, and im contemplating either paying honda £22 pounds (thats about $50 bux u.s ) to buy a new one, or just venting the pipe without a oneway valve back into my intake pipe (pre-throttle body) or to the exhaust (i can get cheap oneway fuel valves for way under a quater of the price honda want to try to seel me one at lol! )

any ideas much appriciated (im currently running the car with a hose venting to the engine bay, though the gas milage and low speed acellaration seems utterly gash sinse having it this way)

cheers

22 quid for a bloody PCV my god man!

why not just go on ebay or some other site and get one or better still go down to some kind of local parts place in england and get one

you need to have a vac source to help vent the crank case as for the valve i would just replace it or you will not pass your M.O.T test i bet?

22 quid dear god!

if you think thats bad want me to tell you how much the roof seals cost for my delsol or a replacment front bumper? (i will anyway, seals are in excess of £450 , and a bumper around the £250-300 mark , i know for a fact your dealers are about half that cost!)

i tried using a oneway fuel valve, but the smallest i could get was to big, and the spring was to hard in it, it would work, but when coming off the throttle down to idle it will hunt up and down for a few seconds before setteling (i had to add a restrictor to to get the idle down from 1500 rpm to a more reasonable 900 lol! )

guess ill just plump for a honda unit and wire it into the tubing im now running from the black can to open air

Listen to Richard. Get a new pcv and a vac source to help vent the crank case. The reason why the restictor worked is because the pcv is a restictor. venting the crank case with vac but without a pcv isnt too smart either, thats too much vaccum. it can casue ring problems.

your second option is to remove the factory oil collector all together and get a catch can. that way you wont need a new pcv and can vent it to the aptmosphere.

lastly, try the wtb thread and ask around for a pcv. you should be able to find one for dirt cheap.

heres what you should do vent all 3 crank case hoses (if it's obd1) to a catch can and F the stupid pcv valve. who wants to burn crank case fumes anyways.

the catch can idea sounds good, but call me an idiot what locations do you run the hoses to the catch can? proly one off the valve cover right? and one from where the pcv valve would be? wheres the 3rd one?
