crx ecu reset
i have a stock 88 crx si. Is it worth it to reset the ecu to see if it will change anything. I have had a problom with dash lights dimming could this fix it. Also how do i reset the ecu and do i have to set anything up after resetting it.
All you have to do to reset the ecu is pull of the negative battery cable for about a minute then reconnect it. There is nothing to set up either once you reconnect the battery. I dont think that reseting the ecu is going to help you with dimming dash lights though.
sounds like your alternator is going south for the winter... if you have a multimeter you can test it yourself...if not take it to autozone.
To reset the ECU without losing your stereo presets, Pull the HAZARD fuse under the hood on the passengers side for ten seconds.
Dimming lights are usually a ground problem.
Inspect all grounds on the car. If they have corrosion clean them with sandpaper and apply die-electric grease to keep them clean. A problem that most don't think about is the ground for the alt. The ground for the alt is it's mounting brackets/bolts. Make sure you have clean surfaces where it is mounted.
That should fix you up!

Hello All,
I just picked up a 1988 CRX SI that needs a lot of attention. Ordered the service and electrical shop service manuals but don't have them yet and I haven't had a CRX since 91. Does the ECU normally flash? I think mine is fried, it's certainly rusty and there are signs of water infiltration in the car. Mine isn't doing anything and I'm trying to start it. Crank but no start. Can't hear the fuel pump and am checking spark but not looking good.
