prep for paint whole car BB6
I know this has been covered many times, but I wanted to get a straight answer with regards to my questions.
I have a 97 SH in nordic mist silver with a near flawless body. The only problems are the fading on the spoiler and the rock chips on the front of the car. (hood, bumper)
I was reading on previous posts that there is no point on putting new primer on the car if the body is in good condition. So do I just sand with 800 grit or higher sandpaper and bring it in? or do I have to do other steps? I just want to make sure.
As for removing the rubber moldings on top: Do i just pull them off or do is there a certain way of doing them? I am going to remove all lights, exhaust, etc just to make sure. I know it may sound dumb, but I dont want them to spray over it.
If you guys have any other pointers I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

If you aren't doing any repairs, then yes, just sand it with 1000 grit. As for rock chips you can DA those down, feather them out real nice and use a filler primer on them, then wetsand the primer with 600 or 800. Take everything off the car that you can, molding, lights, trim etc...Which rubber moldings do you mean, the roof moldings? If so they may just be double face taped on, if so you can just pull them off carefully.
