ok so this is whats going on. when my car idles at a stop light or w/e sometimes the exhaust will make popping noise. and i notice that sometimes when i am just driving nomally my car will lag as if the spark plug wires were not all the way on (i made sure they were all the way on). help?

 

man your just having all kinds of problems.....check plugs and wires first could be due for a tune-up.

this is a complete shot in the dark, but this just happened to me and i had water in the spark plug cylinder. It would lag and pop and kinda sound like a harley. You just need to dry it up if thats the case. Thats a complete shot in the dark though.

 

did you just remove the plugs and let it air dry?

 

cylinder missfire possibly??? thats what mine did

If this was your problem it would happen all the time. If yours doesn't happen ALL the time then this wouldn't be the case. If it is the case, then just dry them. I would pull a spark plug and the distributor cap and see what kind of condition they are in like forcefedferio said.

 

missfiring? could it possibly be timing? but yeah it doesnt do it all the time , but it did do it more lately.

 

naa i doubt its timing... check the rotor in the dizzy it might be going bad and missing the spark wires.. misfiring could be occuring due to spark plugs, wires, is your firing order right?? could be something wrong with the dizzy but i doubt it if its getting spark

right?

 

from what it looks like from the outside, the distributor looks brand new. tomorrow i will pull the plugs and check it. to check the inside of the dizzy do i have to pull it out and redo the timing and stuff to put it back in?

 

Theres just 3 little screws. 8mm/philips I'm pretty sure and it comes right off. You don't even have to pull the spark plug wires off.

 

shouldnt have too... fireing order is 1342 counter clockwise... the dizzy cap could be replaced but ignition modules go out without even looking like it... i think its your rotor... could be wrong. sounds like its just not striking the wires sometimes... is it happining all the time or just everyonce in a while?

missfiring can cause a very loud poping nose, and very slow...

also check the wire crimps (i think thats what their called) mine broke off once and caused missfiring

 

alright thanks guys , ill take a look tomorrow. if the stuff inside is bad how do i tell? should i just get a brand new dizzy if it is?

 

naa... do that as a lassttt resort.. if your near an autozone you can take the ignition module or coil and have them test it for bad grounds.. thats probly not it tho if the car starts..

when you unscrew the dizzy theres a big circle look at that and there should be like a grinderstone (like whats on lighters) that spins and strikes the sparkplug wires.. check that to see what it looks like.. also check the inside of the cap.. there should be 4 tiny metal wire looking things.. these should also look very ment.
