New to honda-tech
Hey, ive been reading up on honda-tech for a while now and just recently decided to finally make an account and actually participate. im new to all of this so i thought before i would join i should read up. well i recently graduated and my parents got me a brand new Civic Ex 2007 auto and i love it. i wish it was an si, but hey, its that thought that counts and i plan to make the most of it. anyways i just wanted to get some feedback on what you guys think i should do to it first since i know i am limited on what aftermarket products i can use and do to it. i jsut plan on making this car look as clean as i can get it, and price wont be too much of a problem, so any suggestions would really help. thanks in advance and if any of you guys are in san diego and wanna meet, im down for whatev.
Welcome!
With an auto, you're pretty limited to boltons. Some people would say turbo, but I turboed my auto Accord and had nothing but bad luck. I don't think Honda's tranny is able to stand boost.
Since you can only work with boltons, you're limited in power output.
I'd really just focus on decent, useful upgrades then.
1) Suspension (new shocks and springs [or coilovers], chassis braces, etc)
2) Wheels/tires/brakes (Stickier tires, lighter wheels, better brake pads)
3) Useful cosmetic mods (HID retrofit [NOT A CHEAP PLUG N PLAY KIT!], lip kit]
4) Personal choice from there on out. Better stereo? CF hood? Whatever!
Anyways, my biggest advice is DON'T CHEAP OUT! It's better to have one quality part than 3 crap parts that underperform or break on you.
I'd check out corsportusa.com, they have a LOT of good suspension products for even the base Civics
I personally would stay away from any other bolt ons besides perhaps an intake and exhaust, because by then you'll be either screwing up emissions equipment or making it uncomfortably loud. Plus, since you can't really tune it like you can with KPRO, you won't be making the best of your power because you can't optimize the computer for your parts.
EDIT: And drive your parents out for dinner. I'm buying a similar car (coupe EX) when I graduate college and it's nice to show you appreciate that your parents spent that kind of cash on you. I hope they HELP me, but a whole car like that, you're lucky.

Anything that is readily installed without taking the engine apart: an air intake, an exhaust header, an exhaust system. They literally bolt on and off.

bolton = "bolt-on"
hah welcome man i got my car as a graduation present as well, but i have a 5spd LX. nothing much to do to our car to make it much faster but theres always the thrill of modding your first car. heres what i'd do, and what im in the process of doing
suspension - in my opionion comes before performance, because who wants a fast car but you cant handle it right? some lowering springs (150-200$) for now but if you got the cash, coilover kits (700-1100$). with a more agressive drop your going to need camber kits (300$) so your tires dont unevenly wear out.
with that ofcourse some rims. price may vary.
performance - not too much out there for our R18a1 engine. theres the short ram or cold air intake (200-250$), exhaust (500$), downpipe and "header" (about 400$), and pulley kits. not sure the price on those.
then when you have some spare cash during your modding adventure, you can spend it on appearance mods. tint, visors, color matched grill, the list goes on.
be sure to search first before making threads. and browse the site for more useful information.
