Default Need help, wanting to go to MPFI D15B1

Hi guys, as you can already tell, i know pretty close to nothing about cars. I have an 89' Civic with a D15B1. All i want is an easy way to gain some extra HP and from what i have read, going to MPFI is the best way to go. Now, i dont even know where to start looking. For MPFI on the Civic, do i need a kit? If so where would i look for one? Can an amateur install this? How much does this usually run?

I also read about the restrictor plate, is it wise to remove it? Other than maybe losing MPG, will it harm the engine in any way? The car only has 104XXX miles on the motor. My friend was telling me, Besides the ECU, the plate is the onmly difference between the B2 and the B1.

Thanks for your help!

Well, im not kidding about the restrictor plate, the D15B1 does have one (http://www.automotiveforums.com/t226023.html) and im still looking for more info on it.

Thanks for the help, but like i said, im VERY new, i dont really understand half of the things you abbreviated, sorry.

Cost wise, what am i looking at here?

Thanks again for the reply Scot!

search mpfi, and look in the FAQs.
Boomslang.us and rywire both make setups for it.

The plate does nothing to help just go mpfi.

It's around 200 normally, well worth it.

when i did my mpfi swap it cost about 300 and that is with a new si distributor, full dash and engine wiring harness (not needed you can use a converted one), pm6 ecu (the one you will need), si intake manifold, throttle body, fuel rail, injectors, and other miscellaneous parts.

As long as you are somewhat mechanically inclined you can do this swap. Just get yourself the full Si intake and associated parts like the distributor and ecu then go on ebay and buy a mpfi conversion engine harness if you are not comfortable with wiring that way you can have the easiest plug and play kind of thing. Try the SEARCH funtion though on here you will find a lot of info..... just type in MPFI.

I will say when i did this on my crx when it had the factory d15b2 in it i did notice a difference, i mean it wasnt amazing power added or anything but you will notice it and it is probably one of the best things you can to your car for cheap.

I believe that the d15b1 also had a more mild cam plus the restrictor plate and the different ecu but i am not 100% sure on that.
