switching gears
Hi..I have a 99 Civic LX (D16y7)and just wanted to know for best fuel economy at what speeds it's best to switch gears from 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 4th on a manual transmission? At what speeds do people usually switch gears?
You want to change gears no higher than 2500 rpm. I'm assuming that you don't have a tach in there, so it's right about (if I remember right) 15, 27, 39, 50 in mph. It says in the manual, if you have one. These might not be 100% accurate, but it's close.
It sucks I don't have a tach..I was looking in the manual but could not find any info. Do you know what page in the manual it tells you the speed to change gears?
I got better mileage with my EX trans w/4.71 FD than I did with the stock Y7. I get better mileage with my EX trans (stock FD) and MFactory close gear set than I did with the EX/4.7 setup. RPM doesn't matter, throttle does. I'm at 5k at 80 in 5th and all it takes to keep the car moving is an ant crawling on the gas pedal.

x2. A good example is if you coasted down a hill at 5000 or at 2500... 0% throttle -> no gas either way.
