Default f22b2 nonVTEC to VTEC?

I thought I had read about this on here at one point, but I can't find it now. So I'll just ask again, Is it possible/practical, to mod my f22b2 engine in my '96 lx to have VTEC? And if so, could my stock auto-tranny take the extra power? Noob questions, I know, but I'm new to this and want to learn.

My personal opinion it's not a practical swap, unless you absolutely need to replace your F22B2. Or you have money to burn.

If your looking for huge power gains from the VTEC your not going to find it in this particular engine. For all of your work/money swapping the engine, VTEC ECU and adding the few extra wires. Your only going to gain approx. 15hp more than what you got.

Check the Accord FAQ for links on how to do that swap.

I don't think he wants to do the "swap"

I think he is like me and want to know is there a head I can put on my F22b2 and gain Vtec? I understand that there will only be a few HP gain. But if its like other hondas.......will the H22 head fit or only the F22b1 head or what? Because once there and working it would be easy to later add the bottom end. Does that make sense?

Thanks,

It's swapping the heads is it not?

please search......... there is so many discussions about different swaps (head, block or entire engine) it's not even funny.

Come on man dont bust my chops. You know what I meant. Not ONE person on here said anything about swapping heads just went to complete engines right away. I know I dont want to swap and engine....yet, hehe and I figured he didnt either. Sure its a "swap" but lets not be so literal. I am new here and learning where to find info (not just searching) as far as different sections and what they contain.

Sorry to be ignorant. I don't see a swap section. I looked in hybrids but search for f22 came up with nothing.

no offense dude, but alot of us are sick of seeing/reading the same questions when the OP doesn't search or look thru the FAQ.

I don't know how touringaccord does it, he is a moderator for this section, so i wouldn't disrespect him if i were you.

Also, just so you know, Its not an easy swap to put the h series head on, from what i remember you need to fab up some parts.

I'm not busting your chops, I'm just saying...

The OP didn't specify whether they were looking to swap just the head or the entire motor but lets be honest... whether you are swapping a head or an entire motor, a swap is a swap.

So I'm not real sure what you are getting at saying "lets not be so literal" (sounds to be directed towards me) because isn't it you thats taking the word "swap" literal? I mean you read "swap" and immediately thought "entire motor swap". I meant it as either motor swap or head swap since the FAQ contains links to both.

The 5th thread down on the first page of the Accord Forum you see a thread titled "Accord FAQ", click on that. Now...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by GhostAccord &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Scroll down to the swap section</TD></TR></TABLE>

BTW, the "Accord FAQ" is a sticky so it'll always be at the top of the Accord forum to easily locate it.

Not ignorant, noob!

My bad....I should have put it like this "Accord FAQ's/Swap/ H22a Head on F22B2 Block" the swap section is in the Accord FAQ sticky.

Another good search tip is to select the archive box when your on the search page. There is a lot of info that has been archived as well as active.

Cheers and good luck with your swap/build

No one said anything about what they wanted, I guessed and figured the full swap because you can't convert your f22b2 head to vtec, you have to swap it at least to gain it.

Plenty of tutorials about it

Yeah, I should've clarified exactly what I meant a little better, and I did search, just not in the right place, b/c i didn't see the swap section in the FAQ.

So the b1 and b2 have the same blocks? *noob* And all I'd need to do is the b1 head with b1 ecu?

yes thats pretty much it. you can even skip the ecu for the time being .... you can ride arround with no vtec or there is ways to toggle switch the v-tec but thats GHETTO

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=529272&page=1

kinda hard to read but all the info is there, also your swap would be WAY less complicated becouse that swap guide is setup for the older accords so you dont need any of that intake manifold or throttle body stuff. just swap the head and wire the ecu

lol, yeah, I don't want to ghetto my accord (ghetto is now a verb evidently). I woulld need the cylinder head, head gasket, and...what else? What about the spark plugs? Would current set-up reach the ports on the b1 since they're on the front of the engine? And is that safe to do? I really need the reliabilty, since i commute to UML everyday (80 mile round trip), don't want to melt any wires b/c they're on the engine.

Oops, didn't notice the link there. haha

what ports? yes everything is the same. you can even use the same plugs i guess. althogh i would replace them cuz its cheap. you need a timing belt but you were gonna change that anyway right?

if you are talking about the spark plug wires, yes they will fit

you didnt reply to my PM, email me: representuh@hotmail.com

yes, either take it to PM's or email cause this isn't the place for buying/selling parts.
