i just did my clutch and rear main now my rear main is leaking when i did it i took off the rear main cover and then tapped the seal in it had to be between a .8-.5mm gap all the way around the manual calls for. idk why it leaks i used hondabond and put the seal on correctly is there a break in for the seal or somehting im forgetting ?

what rear main??..rear main what??

and asfar as seal's go, I'm positive there is no break in period. If it leaks it will continue to leak, and probably even get worse no matter what it is.

 

Pull the trans and take a look. That sucks dude.

My rear main seal was a pita to get out the old one. Did you forget to hondabond the seal cover?

 

No matter what happened, it has to come back out and get all done over again anyways, new seal and bond.

are you sure the spring on the new seal did not pop off during the time you've tapped it in?

 

i was told that the seal needs to be around the crank evenly if its not then it will leak

 

It is true that oil seals of this type need to be in evenly, that should be pretty apparent to anyone that feels qualified enough to do a rear main. ******* that seal up is a costly/timely mistake.

The rear main has a backing behind the seal, so you can't hit it in too far. When it is flush with the outside plate, it is already in as far as it will go. Make sure to use a little bit of good, quality grease on the inner lip so you don't burn the seal on initial startup, before an oil is there to lubricate.
