Default Question about PDR (Paintless Dent Removal)

I am going to be picking up a new (to me) car in a few days, and some of the only cosmetic flaws it has are a few door dings and another "ding" on the trunk. It looks as if the trunk was closed with something slightly too large inside, and the result is a reverse ding on the outer skin. I know most PDR tools are metal and are made to restore the body panel's shape by working from the reverse side, but is it possible to have PDR work done to "push" a ding flat from the painted outer surface without damaging the finish?
