My Blown Motor . In your opinion what do you think happened? [56k chill]
Any Ideas what could have happened?
I would like to figure out what went wrong to avoid any similar problems with the next build , thanks

plastigage FTW!
honestly I dont know its hard to tell from your pictures did you drop a valve? break a rod? what happned when it went, did it just go? or did you get rod knock?

^ i was going to say the same thing... looks like you dropped a valve, bearings don't look to good either.
Damn man when this happen?

it happened at buttonwillow ..
I was in the turn riverside , I would say close to 95 mph at 8500 rpm's and then it went hard..
Rod knock was heard right before that session but it went away after a few seconds , why I didn't leave the car off ? .. I got greedy and wanted to run one more session.
I was running the ctr pulley with a stock oil pump . maybe the ctr pulley strained the oem oil pump and it failed? From what I heard it's better to run the
" toda gear " for the oil pump with the ctr pulley.. ?

from a past experience with the valve dropping the motor pretty much fluttered and came to a stop , this time the motor had a loud pop sound and blew out from the bottom. I have the stem of the valve , it' s shaped.
I think the bearings failed or the oil pump.

wheres the dish of the missing valve?
i cringe when i think that that must have sounded like when it blew
man!! you've got the same name as me, and we had exactly the same problem!! except my block have a biiiig hole!!! valves broke!! and it happened on cylinder no 2!!!
i dont know what went wrong!!!
well, good luck with the next build!!!

Reza, are you running anything in terms of a baffled oil pan? Could possibly be oil starvation under hard cornering. Im sure you are running one with the experience you have.
Also, is the motor fresh? What was the break-in method? Only reason I ask, is I know that a lot of low-rpm 'lugging' of the motor (low-rpm+full throttle) can squeeze oil from the face of the bearings.

True
Were they ARP bolts? I had ARP rod bolts in my ls/vtec build, and it spun happy up to 8500rpm. Factory LS rods too.

It could be what these guys above said, oil starvation. I know your an avid racer so this situation probably came up quite often, maybe with the repeditevness the bolts finally gave out. But from the pictures I honestly think it is something along the line of a spun bearing. Because if it slipped out at that RPM then holey sh*t a disaster like that could definantley happen. The internals look the same as when my motor spun a bearing, but my rod just bent didnt snap like yours. The only thing I can think of is to either a) get some arp rod bolts for the next build, or b) get some aftermarket "race" bearings supposedly with the extra oil channel like ACL. Or a combination of both. Good luck man, I always loved your car and your skill at driving, I wish I lived out there so I could get pointers from you

good call. I was going to say lack of oil would have been one of the many things that could have gone wrong. Especially from the look of those bearings damn man... that sucks... But Mrs. Triscuit's explaination sounds like the most logical answer
The rod is snapped right off... these are crazy *** pictures.
