Default Engine Lift

Im pulling my motor at the end of the month. Now my question is this, when removing the motor mounts, which im pretty sure are what hold the motor in place, will the motor just fall out or will there be something there to support it up. My engine lift, I dont have one, so will we be able to pull it out and drop a new motor in or are we going to have to get one of those lifts. I can buy one If I have to but rather not, so if anyone knows where i can rent one for a day or two that would be great. Im doing a noob swap at the end of the month so any help is greatly appreciated.

motor mounts are all that support your motor. if you remove one, the motor will sag to that side, and so on. NOT a good idea

my first time pulling a motor, i did it with just a jack. but i removed piece by piece. first tranny, then the head, then i had the block supported by the jack, removed motor mounts, and my bro and i strong armed the block out.

but those were the caveman days

search around where you live, you'll find a place that rents them. before i bought mine, i rented from a local place that charged ~$30 a day. made more sense to just buy one though, especially when i found one for about $100.

i was actually thinking the same thing cuz im trying to swap out a b16 on my friend's wrecked hatch and piece together a DD preparing for the purchase of an s2k shell.

I was thinking either the piece by piece idea or like something that i could pump or adjust to raise the motor out. (maybe 4 people outside pulling and 2 people under squatting and pushing. lol) ill figure it out, worst comes to worst ill throw a chain over a tree branch. (ill take a pic of either the motor hanging on, or a fat tree branch on my EG shell.)

Just buy an engine hoist and load lever. They're not that expensive, and it'll make pulling the engine much easier.

Good idea. Plus you can R&R everything together (i.e. complete engine with the trans attached).

hoist saves a butt load of time and prevents a good amount of cursing. Just get one.

that idea of having 2 to push from under is a bad idea. even when motors are dangling on the hoist i wouldn't sit under it.

I picked up a very nice hoist and stand combo at Northern for $180. Just remember to get a good solid chain and some hooks to lift with, and find some solid lift points

Get a load lever too. It makes R&R of the engine with the tranny 100X easier.

Thanks for all the replies. One more question I have is the extra vibration with my motor. Will replacing motor mounts fix that?
