front wheel bearing help...
It started by installed extended wheel studs and I followed this thread
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=907985
All good till reinstallation. I had the spindles off the car while I did this, I used a lot wheel bearing grease on the ball bearings and made sure the bearing face on the hub was nice and clean. I then used the slide hammer to press it back into place...
The first one went fine, pressed it in and it freely spins with no noise.
THen comes the second one, I pressed it in and it didn't sound right. I flipped the hub over and noticed the damn bearing had cam out the back. So i used a piece of wood (so to not damage the bearing) and hit it with a hammer and pressed the bearing in. I spun the hub and could hear metal-on-metal contact. I dissassembled it and then reinstalled it when the wood on the back of the bearing to support it and the same thing. It's noisy and has alot of resistance, obviously messed up.
So I'm thinking that I need a new wheel bearing...What could have happened to mess it up that bad? It spun perfect before...Anyway to salvage it (completely dissassemble and regrease) or do I need a new one?
I'm so pissed right now...
Thanks in advance for any help

Remove the bearing and see what messed up, odds are if the back pushed out far enough and you slammed the back inner race back in you probably damaged the plastic cage.
Did you remove the inner race that seizes up on the hub? Or did you use the old race on a new bearing...
It helps to freeze the hub before reinstall so putting it back in is easier.

No I didn't remove anything besides the hub and the race came out with it. I was planning on reusing the wheel bearings. I only pulled out the hub to make the installation of the wheel studs easier...
I'lll pull it apart tonight and take it apart to see what happened...
THanks for the fast replay

Can anyone verify if all 92-00 civics share the same front wheel bearings? I would assume so but just need to verify it.....
I need them for a 99 SI and the place where I was going to order thru has it listed as compatable with the following:

Answer from me is NO.
I had an issue in doing this, make sure to reference sizes of the bearings. ABS wheels bearings are larger. On my 2000 EX non ABS Civic the non ABS bearings did not fit, even though it was not ABS. I had to get bearings from and Integra ABS (didn't have ABS Civic bearings, they should be the same part though)
I am certain that Integra ABS or Civic ABS bearings will fit. If they show you two different sizes, get the larger one to simplify things.

O ok, that makes sense.
I looked up part numbers for a few model civics that were not on that list and they were different, so that really clears things up.
Thanks alot for the fast reply
