Default Maaco....lol the name says it all!

Okay so maaco sux.....easily put, well I have seen 3 cars on here painted by maaco and they all "looked" pretty damn good, I know a friend who had his painted by them so he could sell it the color was clean and bright but some spots were rough but I think that was due to his body work. My car is all primered I like it but Id like to have a all nice clean black rex. his paint job was only 200 bucks I fig. I can get a descent one for 600 and it will last a year or two until I rip everything out and totally repaint the whole car.

anyone have anything good bad to say about maaco?

..kinda depends on the specific maaco you go to since they're individually owned...if you know some peoples that got decent jobs from a specific maaco...go there

It is hard to paint over a cheap paint job- if they Maaco messes up. save the $$$.

They will have to get that stuff off, before they paint with good paint. Maaco, basically paints over your car as you drive it up. At least from what I've seen.

Have any independent body shops around you? For another $400 ($1000), you may be able to get a lasting paint job.

Yep, delt with 3 different maaco's, and the advice above is a good one. Try to find a reputable shop or at least visit the maaco shop near you and see if you see any good work at their shop. And lastly, you can get a great paint job from them, it will cost more and is called the "ultraurathane" package. Anything less and you get cheaper less glossy and plyable paint.

Had a civic and a crx painted there. I had the supreme package for I think it was 299 and it came out good (just don't get black with that package). Had the civic painted with the "ultraurathane" package and it was great! Near factory finish. All my buddies and people on the street asked me where I got it done because they said it was nice, got stopped a few times in parking lots too (blue metalic paint job).

But you should know one thing with black paint, it shows all inperfections and any bad body work and is also one of the hardest colors to get right and look real nice. Been down the black route before with my crx (also 3 other different colors). If you want a different color I would suggest a lighter color because the easiest paint to get to look good is white.

My car right now has a Maaco Supreme Paint Job on it. I didn't do this, the kid who owned the car before me did. I actually must say that it's not a bad paint job. The kid lived in bumfucknowhere up a gravel pitted road so I can understand the chips on the bottom of the car isn't Maacos fault. The only bad thing is it appears to not even be primered, and only maybe 2 coats of paint or something, I don't know. I think that if you were going to shell out the $600 for this you might as well go for the $1000 and get a better one.

Well my best friends cousin is a very reputable body man and quoted me a 1500 dollar job to do it all himself, that means he'd resand/wetsand the car prime it with a good stuff, and put on 2 coats and 2 clear coats, now this guy has a ton of respect in the Des Moines area hes very good at what he does. He can do it in a week to....but thats not what I want, Im just kinda lookin at something to cover up the primer, that I can take to the carwash and wash, I dont mind if it chips as long as it doesnt just like "peel" off.

We'll see, I might just save the 600 and spend it on somthing else.

Like he said they are all individually owned so you kind of have to check around and look at individual shops work. However maaco really messed my car up. I did most of the prep work myself, however there were a few areas that were a pain in the *** because there was a filler or bondo like substance and i couldnt get the paint off. I explained this to Maaco at the time of the estimate and they UPSOLD me about 250 b/c of all this stated prep work. There are alot of areas on the car that look decent, such as the urethane body kit, and areas my friends and i sanded down, however they did absolutely NO prep work. They just sprayed over the pre-existing paint and it looks terrible. I tried to get them to compromise on the price but they wouldnt, so I called there corporate office, no luck. I even tried to contact a local "watchdog" news channel, but with no success. I hope I dont sound like Im bashing maaco, b/c i realize they are franchised. But this was my experience. Now this week I will be looking around for a decent place to paint my car ( by the way if anyway has any suggestions on a nice black I would appreciate it). And now I am sure I will have to pay a pretty penny to strip all this **** down. I am beginning to wonder if i should buy a shell in good condition or maybe a shell cx or vx of a 92 up civic. Anyways thats my story, hope it helps
