Default Type R tranny problems!!

Every now and then on my 1997 R when i shift into second and i release the clutch the 2nd gear doesn't want to stay in. It occasionally just pops back into neutral after a bit of a grind. Almost feels like it doesn't go completely in gear. Havn't heard of this problem much with honda transmissions but I'm just curious to know what the problem might be. My tranny is going out for a rebuild next month due to dead synchros. (don't really know how the car was treated when i bought it ). Well I was thinking at first it might be the shifter bushings but then i don't get how that would affect the tranny staying in gear and hoping there isn't too much wrong inside the tranny itself. just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on this.

More than likely a bent shift fork would explain your condition.

Countershaft bearing is walking out. Happened on my D16 trans. Stake the bearing into the case.

well i was thinking if the shift fork was bent it would be doing that all the time. Only happens once in a while and only on downshifts. Its never poped out on upshifts before. maybe the countershaft bearing. but i'm still kinda thinking unevenly worn out synchros. correct me if i'm wrong
