Default What can I do to a 97 HX Coupe (beside pushing it off a cliff!)or a swap.

I have a 97 HX, I know there's already like 1,000,000 swap variations, but what I need to know is what can I do with my engine. I heard I can run a header, but it has to be an EX header and I'll have to move my cat further down. Is this true? Also how similar are the HX and EX engines, are they really the same block? They're both D16's. Can I do a head swap with anything better? OR can I use either a Greddy Turbo kit or Jackson Supercharger for the EX with a little modification? If anyone has some tips, thanks.

every penny that goes into that HX motor is a penny that should have gone towards a B16. that is the only option you should consider. do not waste your money on that stock engine.

my advice: swap in B16 or B18C. keep old motor for insane drag go kart.

Head swap not really worth the expense. I was going to go that route but I got a b16a2 instead.

One thing that I did do, and made a nice difference on the street was swapped to a EX tranny. EXs and HXs put out nearly identical power in the dynos I have seen...all thats holding back an Hx is the tranny. The gears are waaay too long.

Hmmm where to start.
The engines are the same shape and design....anything for the EX can go to the HX. and vise versa.
Okay, Jackson supercharger will bolt on and you do not need to mess with the exhaust.
Turbo for EX, you will need an EX cat back.
Performance stuff:
EX tranny.
LSD.
Light flywheel.
Ex intake manifold with a B16 trottle body.
Custom Cam.

Depends....The HX auto tranny is a CVT or constantly variable transmission

THe Stick is just a stick with really tall gears.....70mph in 2nd and 105 in 3rd.

One thing that will give you some $ toward a swap is selling me your stock wheels

Hey Spade, how sure are you that the supercharger and/or turbo kit will bolt up? Will I still need the Ex computer? I mean if it was that easy to switch over wouldn't more ppl have done it? I know my car is supposed to run real lean, but is it just the fuel curves programmed in the ECU, is it the fuel system itself, or a diffferent head design? Oh and sorry, my car was bought used so I never had the HX stocks.

The HX has the "lean burn" ECU and VTEC-E, it scares too many people.

The HX and EX have the exact same bolt patterns for anything.....they are completley interchangeable.

Spade - Okay, sounds good, so I should be able to just swap the ECU and tranny, then i could bolt on a turbo or a supercharger? No head work necessary?

leave the HX ecu for now......I needed a new EX ECU anyway and I will see how the HX reacts with it. But for the meantime, the HX will accept a Super without any mods needed and a turbo with an EX cat-back.

stick with the D16 and turbo it.

once advantage to the D16 is it's 90mm stroke. that leads to awsome torque numbers when it is boosted, seen 190+ ft/lbs from a 10 psi kit. they are cheap motors too, so once you install a kit you can find a spare block for $100 and learn how to build up a strong bottom end...they are great motors to learn on and perform well if you know how to run them.

B16 isn't always the answer guys
