Default Synthetic oil

Another question: I'm using Royal Purple in my '98 Prelude and going through a quart every three tank fulls. Is this 'normal'? A buddy of mine works for Comp Cams here in Memphis, and Comp swears by Royal Purple. I was running 5w-40, but changed to 10w-30 with no change in oil consumption. The car has (only) 129,000 miles so I don't think engine wear would be a problem. But, for some reason it's 'burning' oil (I guess) or the oil is so slick it's slipping past the rings. Any ideas?

Are you in VTEC a lot? That much oil consumption seems excessive, an h22 will typically burn a quart of oil every 3,000 miles or so. Many burn less though.

Also, you might be leaking it instead of burning it.

When did you switch to synthetic? Did it have the oil problem with regular oil?

You are buring oil or leaking oil. 1 quart if oil every three gas tanks is too much.

I just answered this same question in another thread; if the motor hasn't seen synthetic since day one, it will leak. The seals are used to one type of oil, synthetic has detergents in it that will take away the seals over time, it cleans so good that it will cause oil leaks.
