Do catch cans work?
I am running the Endyn/Moroso setup, but I ditched their shitty PCV valve they include with the kit, and I am using 17130-PM6-G01 (OEM GSR part number).
I drain the catch can every 500 miles or so. Get a few teaspoons of oil if I drive the car hard. If I am just driving like a normal, law-abiding citizen, then it gets maaaybe 1 teaspoon in 500-600 miles.

Mike K,
Do you think this is a worthwhile addition to a totally street Type-R? My understanding is that it keeps evaporated oil from getting sucked back in through the intake manifold.
Also would love to see some install pics; hell maybe someone could do a tutorial for morons like me

can you also put on a pink ballerina outfit with a fuzzy bunny tail and take pics of you painting a tree purple and orange?
Thanks!
J/K, btw.....

I have a pic of my engine bay in another thread. I removed the bracket that holds the engine wiring harness onto the passenger side strut tower, and i mounted the catch can there. Perfect spacing fo the bolts and everything.
Mike how about getting a cusco catch can and putting a pcv valve inline with it on it's way to the intake manifold. It's pretty much the same thing as the endyn one but not integrated into the catchcan right?
The reason I ask this is I'm a little confused on how one would hookup a catch can on a motor without a pcv system. For example a B20 motor that does not have the pcv but it has only the pcv valve in the valve cover. From the PCV Valve which is in the valve cover it goes directly to the manifold so let's say you put the vtec head on the B20, would you run the lines from the valve cover TO the cusco catch can and put a pcv valve inline to the catchcan then FROM the catch can goto the intake manifold?
Let me know.

Where can I purchase the Endyne modified Moroso oil catch can set-up? I know they are about $150, but I can't find a place to purchase it.

There are fittings available directly from Endyn(or they come with the kit), and they replace the large hex plugs on the back of the block.
What you can do on an B16A, B17A, B18C, or 90-95 B18B is simple:
use an extra rubber grommet that comes with the Endyn kit(the one that goes on top of the catch can), remove your block breather box, as put this grommet in the hole where the box was, and use Hylomar sealant. You can get a tube at the Jaguar dealership. This will keep the grommet from popping out.
Then plug one of the two openings on the side of the catch can. Run 1 line from the hylomar'd grommet to the side of the catch can, then put the PCV valve on top of the catch can. From the PCV valve, route the other hose to your intake manifold. Thats it!

Why don't more people install the catch-can so that it drains back into the blocK? is it just a PITA, or is there another reason? Is the condensed oil vapor that collects in the can contaminated to a point where you don't want it back in the block?
My plan is to eventually relocate the battery to the rear, then install a remote oil filter and the catch-can on the firewall where the battery was. I imagine that would be a sufficient spot to enable the can to drain on its own. Any thoughts?

It really isn't a problem to drain the oil catch can. I drain mine when I change my oil (every 3,000 miles).
pretty easy huh? the stock can on a gsr looks impossible to get to unless you removed the intake manifold or had the engine out....what can a lazy **** do then? i was thinking of doing the old way (classic style)
Well, I forget how it is on a stock GSR, but I would think that once you get the intake manifold bracket loose, you can take the breather box out from the bottom of the car.
I didn't feel like feeding it back to drain into the block. I don't mind manually draining it periodically.

hmm... when installing my dohc in my EK hatch, my father and i, came up with idea to just run hose from top of valve cover to the little round catch can that was allready on firewall on passenger side! dont know what went to it before, but i do know i dont have that ****y old sewt oil stuff going into my intake and into my t.b.! any thoughts on this? thanks, eric

I think you may be talking about the evaporator canister (black canister with a couple of hoses attached).

Wrong, you connect it to the PCV and the other end to the intake manifold.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the hose coming off the valve cover isn't where you would connect a catch can. Right?
