Default I fried something ! dont know what to do ~

so my friend wanted to have some fun in his alarm to sound when ever he push a switch or button. I already have it on my car but no problems with it. Anyway we did it at night time but it was hard to see but he wanted to do it right away so i did it. My question is can you hook up wires that are Bigger gauges then switch to a small gauges that goes to the battery ? The gauge i place for the ground and negative are a 12 gauge wire and red gauge for the battery was a 5 gauge an a lot smaller ?? Im stomp when i hook up everything the light turn on for power then some of the wires from the alarm started to smoke?? what do u guys think the problem could be !

ground and negative are the same wire, and what the hell are you talking about?? The problem is that you don't know what you're doing obviously

I am also having a hard time understanding what you are saying, but it sounds like you may have connected 12V+ to a ground lead, [or a ground to a 12V+ lead] you obviously did not install a fuse on the switched line, so whatever you did instead of blowing a fuse you shorted some wiring.

Also....
Red is not a gauge
5 gauge would be a lot thicker then a 12 gauge.
You will need to much clearer in your discription of what you did, where wires were connected. 94
