Idle problems...I need a refresher
I took my air intake off, because I wanted to clean it. I disconnected the battery.
My idle was set at 750rpm before I took the air intake off, with the throttle body screw set at its normal setting (almost flush with the screw housing) .
While the intake was off, I decided to clean the I.M butterfly flap with brake cleaner, because it was dirty as hell.
I than hooked the intake/battery back up, and crank up the car, thinking that the ecu would remember the settings, because I didn't reset the ecu.
The engine surged up and down, go ******* figure!!....So I shut the car off, pulled the harness from the iacv, reset the ecu, and the damn thing was still pulsating.
The only way that I can get it to stop is to turn the throttle body screw all the way in.....And even though it maintains 1000 rpm (with NO pulsing). I can't get it to go any lower, because the screw is all the way in.
I've fixed this **** a while ago....Could anyone refresh my memory on what I'm forgetting to do???
It can't be good to have the throttle body screw almost to lock down, just to maintain an idle of 1000rpm.
I'm sooo pissed.....At myself that is, I can't remember.
Thanks man....

I had a friend who did the same thing, clean im butterfly and as silly as it sounds......the surging was due to manifold wetting and it surged like that for a week or two then stopped. maybe i'm off base here, but that's my experience.
That's a good possibility. When I took the ai, off I cleaned the re-washable filter.....It may not have been completely dry, when I installed it.
It may have got a good whiff of moisture when I cranked it back up. I guess I'll see here in a few days, and try the adjustment/ecm procedures again by the book.
Thanks,

not sure but if you took it off when the car was warmed up or after you had driven it lately then id check the FITV. the valve closes off after warmth and becomes useless after the motor is warm from what ive heard. so maybe because you took it off when it was warm(if u did) it is stuck shut after u started it cold. jus a guess could try checkin it.
