92 Accord running a bit off
Hi,
Ok, here are the symptoms...
1) Stalls out during long trips, usually between 100 and 150 miles. After stalling out it will not immediately start. Give it a few hours and it starts up fine and shop can't find any problems. This has happened 3-4 times over the past 1 yr.
Workaround: After driving 100 miles stop the car for @10 minutes.
2) Stalls out during stop-n-go traffic. It has stalled out a few times in DC traffic, but starts up fine.
3) On occasion the idle drops down to 300 rpm when coming to a stop and putting it in neutral. I suspect this is what causes #2.
4) Oil level reading is inconsistent. I recently checked the oil and it indicated 1/2 qt low. I add oil and check it the next day and its 1/2 qt too high. Yes, its was on level ground and had been sitting for more than 5mins.
So, I am thinking it may be some sort of oil circulation problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Scott

you know i had a car that had similar simptoms well actually they were the same. all i did was replace the crank sensor on it ( this was a different car ofcourse) but that's all i did and i didn't have anymore problems with that. u know that usually happened too when outside temp. was more than 110 degrees.
I think I finally got this solved. An additional symptom was oil on the spark plugs. I had the valve cover gasket replaced. This solved the oil in the spark plugs for a few thousand miles. But then it happened again.
Ended up being the O-ring gaskets. I think what was happening was oil was getting up above the O-Rings, and would stall the car out. The car wouldn't start until the oil had seaped back down into the engine (which would take a few hours).
This also explains why when I checked the oil after it being off for 5 mins it looked low. But then I check it again in 3 hrs and the level was good.
So, if you got a lot of miles on your car and the oil level is inconsistent. Check the O-Rings.
