yeah not a prob, if you want to leave it auto, get hondata, you can always convert to 5 spd later, not to hard, if you want to be fast your going to need a new engine so a tranny swap at the same time is my suggestion.

But you automatic tranny will hold you back. If all you can afford is that rex then pick it up, and save up and do a auto 2 manual swap, not that hard and if you get the parts at a junkyard that it should run you more than $300. Check out the faq as this has a walk through for the swap.

maybe on a exotic car, but on a 20 year old honda, no. the auto tranny is weak, and what, is probably a 3 speed

GO! AWAY! NOW!

No one can outshift an automatic computer when to shift. A computer vs man. Computer is faster to shift than any man who thinks they can shift faster with a short shifter.

I think you loose less power with a stick then automatic. Less mechanical means less power loss IMO

auto trannies have torque converters... and im pretty sure that with most torque converter you loose 20% of your horsepower?..
but, i would say get it. if your gonna be modding it anyways then you will probably be getting a b series engine (enventually, everyone gives in lol) and then you can just get that with a manual tranny.

Says the guy that posts irrelevant BS. Can we at least put him on 10-post limit or something?

An auto CRX to rock around town is better than no CRX.
Swap later and throw in a B-series and 5 speed. Thats how you make that one fast. IMHO

Yes it can be fast. ANYTHING CAN BE fast. But like everyone else here (except that ecu controlled automatic guy) im gonna suggest a b16 and a new tranny. Period. The auto can be fast but you will have a lot more fun with a stick. Especially in a rex. Or even a single cam. But please do us a favor and save up for the manual tranny, total cost is gonna be like 250-300 if you can do the work yourself and its not that hard at all. Take a trip to your local junkyard and check out what they have. But if your really into the auto and want to stay with it. Than my suggestion is to build it and boost it. I dont know how a 20 year old auto tranny would handle it though, ive never seen that done before.

If this is going to be your first car, I would suggest that you learn how to drive GOOD before you try to drive FAST. Start with the automatic, then save for the manual swap.

i say NOS it!!! you don't have to worry about redline bouncing because it will shift it automatically for you

You are retarded.

Yes, maybe the computer can physically send an electrical signal faster then a human nerve can...problem is the clutches on the inside of the tranny + torque convertor are mechanically slower then a human beings hand+foot+hand/foot co-ordination.

Buy the rex. Save yourself a few hundred bucks and do a 5spd swap. It can be done in a day, and has next to no wiring or modding.

you somewhat have a correct answer here, but i think it's purely by accident.

a lot of high HP drag cars do use automatic transmissions. the reason being is yes, a machine can shift faster than a human, and more reliably/consistent too. but, those race transmissions are fully built to handle the stresses of racing. high stall converters are installed to allow high rpm launches.

but, i have yet to see an average street honda that is a quick automatic. due to the transmission.

[b]i'll agree, honda autos are gutless dogs. but, there are companies out there that make parts to make your auto trans a little quicker.

ZEX makes a high stall torque converter and claims to knock a second off of 1/4 mile E.Ts
http://www.compperformancegrou...RTERS

level ten is actually a company that produces a much beefier honda automatic trans for racing applications.

i will also agree with this too. i used to own an automatic sohc civic with a turbo kit. awesome spool up time and boost stayed at peak between shifts.
i've also used nitrous on an automatic accord. worked great.

now, for a daily driver, i dont think any of the above are practical. and if you're building an all out racecar, i think you'd probably know how to go fast and wouldnt need to ask. basically, its much easier and actually cheaper to convert your automatic equipped honda to a manual transmission than to try and beef up your auto trans. and it'll be quicker too.
