Question about reliability of some engines
So im currently in the process of selling my bike to make the jump to a 600. Im planning to buy a used one. Talking to some people ive been hearing how reliable hondas f2 f3 are and how unreliable the zx6/zzr 600 kawis are on the long term. I heard that kawis engine tend to fail a lot after 40 - 50000 km and thats beyond the good care of the rider.
So my question to people with more experience is how much truth is to that. Its all about the riders mainteinance or are the kawis from the 90s really not good for long term riding?
I would prefer buying a zx6/zzr600 but i would turn to honda if thats the best investment.
Thanks.

when i said investment i was trying to say in which bike i should spend my money. I dont remember which word its the one im looking for
I own an f3, so thats my vote. Great bike and there are tons of parts available for it if/when it breaks.
I won't speak for reliability, I don't want to jinx my bike. But she's been good thus far, except the voltage regulator took a crap the other day....

Try to find out first which is the brand with more representation, dealers and parts availability. I don't know how things are in Argentina, but here in Venezuela, sometimes getting parts for some particular bike models are hard.
Just get the one with the most available parts, if a bike was taken good care of, it will last to 100.000 kms easily.
I know lots of guys in here with older 250's, 600's and even +1000's above 40.000 kms...some run stronger than others, but all of them are running good still.
And I believe Ramon is wanting to say which bike will be a better buy in the long run, considering maintenance, repairs, etc.

my choice is honda and suzuki cause there my favorite companies. but as long as u maintain any japanese motorcycle correctly u shouldnt really have any problems at all
Ok thanks for the answers, i meant what starscream said i meant
Both bikes have the same availability for parts and accesories around here so thats not a problem. I guess from what you say that its just a myth that kawis are not reliable in the long term. Good for me because i want one

Reliability in sport bikes as in all bikes depends on the owner. it hard to find a sport bike with over 50k mostly because of riders either crashing them or never do maintence but change oil or if it is taken care of by the owner it is sold to the next man before miles get too high.
I just pulled the engine on my 54K mile Yamaha YZF600R and have seen very little wear inside the engine itself.
The transmission is different story.

I wouldn't say that. If you take care of a bike it will last you a very long time. A very long time. I've seen many Yamaha's, Hondas, Kawasakis, and Suzukis, all have many different models to make it over 50k or 100k miles. Just make sure you maintain that bike and it will keep you satisfied. If you're not a beginner which it seems like you are look into the ZX-9 to keep it on the Kawasaki side. Those things are incredibly reliable and cheap. Huge aftermarket for them also.
